wedding wear: white and glitter reception

I'm not going to be changing dresses from the Ceremony to the Reception, since it's at the same location and I'm really excited about wearing my wedding dress for the whole thing. We are, however, going to be having a big, more casual party the next day where we're inviting a ton of people. While the wedding itself is going to be smaller and more intimate to save on costs and just to keep the stress level down, we didn't want to exclude our friends who won't get to go to the wedding. So, we're having a big party the next day! Which means... another wedding outfit to wear! I've been debating between wearing a white dress or a super colorful and really fun dress... and I think I'm leaning towards the latter now, but I've already gathered a lot ideas for a white dress, so I wanted to share those with you guys!

wedding wear: my mom

dress/anthropologie :: bolero/dress barn :: shoes/dsw

When my Mom was up to visit a couple weeks ago we went to Anthropologie to do some dress shopping. She'd already picked out a few dresses, but she wanted me to be there to help her decide what dress to go with. I love the dress she chose! Since all my bridesmaids will be in yellow, it'll be nice that she'll bring the green in from the color palette. The silhouette is nice and a bit vintage-inspired, which is perfect for the feel of the wedding. She's going to look so lovely!

what are you waiting for

This past Friday ended up being absolutely gorgeous and hot, which was a bit surprising. Earlier in the week I was certain that fall was upon us for good and the days of heat and humidity were just a memory. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that it was so warm outside. I'm excited for fall, but I'm still enjoying the sporadic lingering summer days that are cropping up.

I initially got this top to wear in an outfit for a wedding event like the rehearsal dinner, but I think I'm going to wear something else. This top turned out to be perfect to wear on a hot day, though, and I opted to be a little more risqué than usual and wore just a bra underneath. I really love the sheer look with a bra showing through, but haven't really found a top that was right to try and pull it off. This outfit was a nice foray into some new territory!

Shop My Closet!

In order to make some room in our new tiny closet and to simplify life, I'm going to be selling some of my clothes! Before donating things to the thrift store, I thought you guys might want to take some of them off my hands first. I'm only listing three at a time, just to keep things simple. But every time something sells, I'll try to get something new listed in it's place. If something is up there for a while and isn't selling, I'll take it down & put it in my 'donate' pile and I'll put up something new in it's place. They'll be some vintage stuff and some newer things too, so if you have any questions on sizes you can email me. Click here to shop!

Engagement sneak peek

On Thursday Dan & I met up with our great wedding photographer, Sarah, for a little engagement shoot! It was so much fun. Sarah is just so sweet and we had a great time going on a little adventure with her down to the camp I worked at this past summer. This is just a little sneak peek of our session, I can't wait to see the rest!

no alarms. no surprises

I feel this strange pull towards dressing more "sophisticatedly" lately. It probably has to do with the fact that, due to moving, I recently went through my clothes in storage which span about 10 years. Looking back at the things I wore in high school, college and even recently, and having those clothes back in my immediate vicinity has reminded me of how I used to dress and what I was like back then. Another odd thing is that I realized how much clothing I've acquired over the years. I'm not much of a clothes horse, and even still the sheer volume of clothing is a bit unsettling. Having pared down my wardrobe for the summer to just a few essentials, I forgot how many options I used to have, and how many things in my full wardrobe I just don't wear very often. It's making me want to simplify. Plus, with Dan moving in soon and our closet/dresser space being rather limited, it will probably just be a smart move practically speaking.

I suppose some of my difficulty in feeling like I ever achieve sophistication in my outfits is the fact of my hair. I will simply never have a clean sharp bob like Rebecca, or snappy and crisp blunt bangs like Erin. My hair will always be unruly and large. I could beat it into submission with straightening and whatnot, but that would be sad and I wouldn't be "me" without this mess of a mop on my head. I don't think I'll ever be able to escape the delightfully tackiness that somewhat defines me, and that really has nothing to do with this blog... it's just who I am. I know I will probably go through seasons of tendencies to wear one style or the next, but at my core I will remain whatever it is that makes me... me.

a guy and a girl

I was sitting at Bluebeard Coffee the other day when I ran across a business card from A Guy And A Girl Films. The card said "weddings in Super 8mm film & HD" and I immediately set out to have a look at their work. So amazing! I adore the vintage look of Super 8 films, they remind me of old family videos and have such a beautiful tactile quality to them. They have that familiar feeing of an old family video but it's seamlessly paired with an artistic cinematography that makes them really special. I am aching to have one of my wedding, how amazing would it be to have one of these special little films document such a wonderful day? They also do some really gorgeous HD films, which are also so beautiful. I love both the Super 8 and the HD videos... but I think I love the Super 8 more! Go to their vimeo to check out more of their films, they're great!

a day away

Oh man, time is just getting away from me! I can't believe in under 50 days I'll be married. Wahoo! These photos are from the weekend Dan & I went up to Port Townsend for the wooden boat festival. Mom, Daniel & I walked around the piers while eating ice cream and Dad & my uncle Marty spent hours absorbing all sorts of wooden boat information and oogling boating supplies. Instead of checking out boating supplies, I checked out the hats. It was such a lovely day and I'm so glad Dan & I got to hang out with my parents before the wedding!

PNW blogger meetup!!

On Saturday night I went up to Seattle to meet up with some lovely ladies for the Pacific Northwest Blogger Meetup! While I didn't know very many people there, it was still really fun to get together with fellow bloggers. I spent most of the time hanging out with Moorea and Rachell. I'd met Rachell before, but not Moorea and we'd been trying to get together for a while! We both design blogs for Freckled Nest, which is how I discovered her!

The get together was put on by Mandy, Chelsey and Melissa, so a big thanks to them for putting together such a great event! We were stationed at Talaricos in West Seattle (which I'd never been to before, new places!) and we had the BIGGEST pizzas I've ever seen! I sipped on a whisky ginger, noshed on some amazing margherita pizza and caesar salad and chatted it up. And of course, we had to take a trip to the photo booth. A big thanks to Jessica May who did an awesome job documenting the mayhem!

Wedding Wear: Bridesmaids

I've always wanted to have my bridesmaids all pick different dresses, and I love the ones they chose! I just made wishlists on some of my favorite online clothing sites (like Modcloth and Ruche) and shared them with the girls so they could see some options and get the idea of what I was looking for. I wanted dresses that were vintage inspired, but still fun and not too formal. I can't wait to see them all in their pretty yellow dresses!

My colors are avocado green and light mustard yellow, and I decided it would be fun to make a little color palette on Adobe's Kuler program, I love summery colors like yellow and green, but I wanted to keep the colors a bit more fall-inspired since the wedding will be in November. The avocado and rust bring the colors into fall and I love how they're bold and rich, but can also be toned down to be more feminine and pretty.

shades of navy

Yesterday Dan & I signed the lease on our new little home! So excited to get the keys and start moving in. Today my Mom is visiting and showing me some dresses she picked out from Anthropologie for her mother-of-the-bride outfit. She's gonna try them on for me and we'll decide which one she'll wear. I saw some iPhone pics she sent me and they all look so cute! But of course... it's Anthropologie after all! I'm currently having kleptomaniac tendencies swooning over this dress from BHLDN. Such a perfect rehearsal dinner dress. Ugh.

I'm so excited to have another Dainty June dress! One of my favorite dresses is by Dainty June but I don't think they're making any new collections, which is a bummer. Dainty June dresses just fit me like a glove, I love it.

My Minnetonkas are getting some mega air-time these days. For some reason I just don't feel like wearing any other shoes. Maybe I'll branch out once I actually have a place where I can see them all instead of them being shoved into the bottom of my tiny Winne closet. Oh well, this Indian summer we're having here lends itself well to wearing simple shoes and enjoying the last days of warmth before the sun gets hidden behind clouds for nine months.

you should be in technicolor

How cool is this?! Becca from Nattosoup is one of my sponsors this month and she kindly offered to do an illustration of me, isn't it amazing? I love it. It's based on one of my photos from this post.

She takes commissions and loves to draw fashion bloggers. I think it'd be a really cool idea to commission a portrait for your profile picture or header on your blog! Check out her illustration and comic work over at her blog.

The ship was cheered, the harbour cleared

This past weekend Dan & I went up to Port Townsend with my parents for the Wooden Boat Festival! It was a lot of fun, and I was so glad to get to hang out with my parents. Dan was excited to be able to spend time with them too, since we don't often get to, them living in Alaska and all. It was really incredible to walk around and look at all the intricately crafted wooden boats. Quite mind blowing. I love seeing the products of people's creativity, dedication, and hard work and these boats were truly works of art. I'll post some photos from the festival later and you can see how cool these boats were!

My uncle was also there visiting from Alaska and apparently he's just started getting into making wooden boats and has completed a couple. He was totally enthralled with all the seminars and wooden boat products that were showing at the festival. It was hilarious, everyone at the festival looked exactly the same... they were all dressed alike, including my Dad and uncle. We would lose them all the time among the sea of boating folks!

This dress is one of my new favorites and since we found out our rental application for the house was approved on that morning, I decided to don it in celebration. For some reason it just seems appropriate to put on a celebratory dress sometimes! It ended up being the perfect dress to wear to the festival because it was so hot! I found this hat at one of the merchant stands and I couldn't resist it. I didn't have a hat like it and it was just too darn cute paired with the dress. Plus it turned out to be nice for shielding my eyes from the sun.

Wedding Wear: The Dress

wedding 6

I'll be wearing my Mom's vintage Gunne Sax dress for my wedding, which makes me so happy. Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to wear that dress, and I used to sneak into the closet where it was stored so I could secretly try it on and imagine myself walking down the aisle. This is perfect too, since it means I won't have to spend any money on a dress or have to stress out about finding the dress. My mom brought the dress down from Alaska last week and I'm so excited to finally have it here!

Snippits of Seattle

I forgot to post pictures from our trip up to Seattle last week! We met up with our friends (and my bridesmaids!) Anna and Molly. It was really fun. We met up with them at the farmer's market in Ballard and then got drinks and fries at King's, which was such a cool spot! It was great to see good friends and find a cool place to hang out. I loved that they served drinks in jars, I've been planning on doing that at my wedding!
