a blustery day

It was quite a nasty day outside yesterday, but I tried to grab a few shots of my outfit. This was just a work outfit. I didn't feel like wearing my typical work t-shirt and jeans combo, so I grabbed this skirt due to its espresso color. I figured if coffee got on it, it wouldn't matter since it was brown anyways. I can't wait until I don't have to wear leggings. I'm kind of getting sick of them. Spring come faster! I long for your warm days and bare legs!

So, here's something sort of funny. Since moving to Tacoma, I've gone back to going by "Libby," since this is what Dan knows me by. I met Dan five years ago in college and when I started college I decided to change my name from Liz, which I went by all through elementary and high school, to Libby. After college I decided to just go by Elizabeth, since I realized that I really love my full name. But since every one already kind of knew me by "Libby" here in Tacoma (from Dan telling them about me, or by him introducing me to them), I've sort of ended up going back to being Libby. What I've started realizing, though, is that when I try to say my name is "Libby," a lot of people hear "Olivia." Haha! Part of me just doesn't want to correct them. I don't actually mind the name Olivia. I feel like I don't have much attachment to any name, other than my full given name, so whatever name people want to call me I'm okay with. Often people will ask me what name I prefer and I have a hard time answering that question because I don't really have a preference! I guess I prefer Elizabeth, but whatever! Maybe I should just start going by Olivia. I think it's kind of funny to have so many names that I go by. Liz, Libby, Olivia, Livvy, Elizabeth. Whatever! A rose by any other name... actually, I don't like roses. A Daffodil by any other name. That's better...

I gave you all

Yesterday was nice and relaxing. I spent the morning hanging out with Dan, watching TV on Hulu and just chilling out, then I went home and got cozy with some soup and Mumford & Sons. Then in the evening Dan and I went over to watch open mic, though this time I hadn't prepared anything to perform. Maybe next week. It was nice to just chill and listen. I work all weekend so I pretended that yesterday was my weekend.

This dress is one of my favorite dresses to wear. Since getting it in December I've probably worn it around seven times. It's so comfortable it's basically like wearing pajamas, and for some reason it's really fun to remix. I don't think I've worn it the same way twice ever so far. I can't wait until the temperatures start to warm up because I can just tell this dress is going to be a perfect summer dress!

I got these boots in the mail the other day and felt like a kid on Christmas ripping open the packaging. Okay, well, I'm like that every time I get any sort of mail (that isn't junkmail or bills). When I was getting dressed and contemplating what shoes to pair with this dress that would be practical as the snow lingers, I looked over and these boots practically leapt onto my feet! I love that you can fold them down and have the cute floral interior show. It just happens to match my dress exactly. Serendipitous!

snow day!

It snowed yesterday!!! It's been dumping huge flakes the past couple days and I'm so excited! I really love snow pictures and I haven't had any since last winter in Alaska. I had so much fun playing around in the snow. Since it's still pretty warm here it's the perfect snowball-making snow!

A bunch of friends had the day off of work yesterday because of the snow-day, so we all decided to brave the cold and snow to go on a bicycle booze cruise! We ended up getting to about 5 places and then it turned into a pub crawl because the temperatures dropped and the roads pretty much turned to ice. It was lovely walking my bike home in the chilly, clear night though. I love the sound of icy snow crunching beneath boots and holding hands with mittens. I think I'll always have a dear place in my heart for those frigid nights, even if they are awfully cold. You can take the girl out of Alaska...

Since today is another gorgeous sunny day, I'm thinking I might just spend the day sipping on warm, cozy beverages and keeping bundled up. After all, that's what days like this are for, right? I kind of wish I could just take a blanket to my favorite coffee shop and curl up on the couch all day. Hmmm, maybe I will...

Before I head out and enjoy another beautiful, snowy day I wanted to let you in on a sweet deal brought to you by one of my awesome sponsors, A Wild Tonic! You can get 25% off any purchase at A Wild Tonic using the code "TACKY25."

emerald friends

On Saturday night Dan, Ben and I drove up to Seattle to visit some friends from college, Anna and Molly, who we hadn't seen in a while. It was a wonderful time getting to hang out with them, catching up and chilling out like the good old days. We went out to The Tin Hat in Ballard, which was a pretty cool little joint! Molly and I both got enormous burgers because we were starving, which were delicious. I hope we get to hang out more often, I'm excited that we all live so near eachother!

cruisin' down the avenue

I've really wanted to take some photos on 6th avenue lately and so yesterday when I was out and about, I grabbed a few. I didn't have my tripod or a friend to do the photos though, so I propped my camera up on a table like the good old days when my blog was a little fledgling blog! I'm actually standing next to the wine bar that Dan and I went to on our first date! 6th Ave is definitely my favorite spot for people watching. Especially on sunny days when it's not too cold to sit outside and you can just sip on a cup of coffee and relax behind a pair of sunglasses while the world passes by.

I've decided to become officially obsessed with Winnebagos. I know, I know. You're probably thinking, "wait, you weren't already officially obsessed?" And you're probably right. But! Yesterday was the day that I started collecting vintage Winnebago paraphernalia and knick knacks. I bought two of these and I started perusing ebay for more Winne stuff. I'm probably going to be that 50 year old woman with a huge collection of Winnebago things. But come on. Those little trinkets are super cute, and if they should be in anyone's house it should be mine. Amirite?
I already have Brave art all over my house, and that little plush Brave my mom made me for Christmas. Sometimes it just feels so good to totally and completely geek out over something.

I want to thank you guys for all the wonderful and amazing comments on my open mic post. You guys really made me want to pursue music more and actually get down to writing/finishing some songs! I've always been pretty shy about singing, so thanks so much for infusing some more confidence into me! Maybe if I get more originals recorded I'll try to figure out how to offer a little EP for download, and I really really want to work on stuff with Daniel, so if that ever comes to fruition, I'll definitely share it with you all!

Blowfish Shoes Giveaway!

I'm super excited about this giveaway, you guys! I absolutely love my two pairs of Blowfish shoes. They've just got such a great look and texture and are the perfect way to top off (or, I guess "bottom off" would be more accurate) the most amazing outfit. I have the Beacher Wedges and Hodge Booties, both of which I love, but they just came out with these Baku Wedges and I fell in love with them! I haven't gotten them yet, but one of you guys can win a pair right here! They come in both beige and black, so you can pick which color you want if you win.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post letting me know what you think would be the perfect pairing with these awesome little wedges! Also, leave me a way to get in contact with you (whether that be at your blog or an email address). The giveaway will be open for entries until Sunday, Feb 27th at 9pm PST. One entry per person.

song sung blue

After many hours of waiting for these videos the upload to Vimeo, here they are! I told Daniel that he had to video me playing open mic so I could prove that I actually did it, haha. I put down my name on the open mic list to go last because I thought that by then people would be tired and go home, thus leaving a smaller audience to have to sing in front of, but alas. This logic backfired and there was still a ton of people there! Plus, it meant that I had to be nervous for longer and had to watch everyone else perform before I went. Maybe next time (if there is one) I'll situate myself in the middle somewhere.
I don't feel like I have much of a "stage presence" at this point, so I mostly just got straight to doing my little songs. The first song I sang I was still suuuper nervous and kept playing the wrong chords, haha. The song was "It Ain't Me Babe."

The second song I did was "You really got a hold on me." I really adore Zooey's version of it with She & Him, so that's the version I covered. Dan was cute and wanted to video more of me so he flipped the camera vertical, so halfway through, you'll have to cock your head sideways, haha.

The last song I did was a jaunty, silly, folksy song I wrote. I felt like I had to do an original song and not just a bunch of covers and this is the only song I've ever finished. Unfortunately that means that I have to write another song if I want to do open mic again. Maybe that'll just be motivation...

I have more songs recorded that you can listen to at my music page, if you'd like. They're all just covers as of right now since, as I previously said, I have a terrible time actually finishing any of my own songs. I've been playing a bit with Dan, who is an amazing guitarist, singer and songwriter, and maybe one of these days we'll get our acts together and actually play open mic or something as a "band."

a nip to the air

I was going to post the videos of open mic today but it's taking for.ev.er. to get the videos uploaded, so those will have to wait for later. Instead here's an outfit from last week! It's been pretty chilly here lately and I have not been feeling like going outside for outfit photos at all! I've become such a pansy since leaving Alaska, haha! I haven't even had to set foot in snow since last winter!

Well, my brain is totally blank today, so this is a short post! I hope you guys had a nice, relaxing Monday, especially if you had the day off for President's Day!

where the wings take root

Last night I played at open mic at my favorite coffee shop! I haven't played in public in front of that many people like... ever. It was so nerve wracking! I've been trying to expand myself though and get outside my comfort zone, so I figured that'd be a sure way to get way outside my comfort zone. A bunch of friends showed up too, so it was nice that there were some friendly faces out there in the audience. I sang "It Ain't Me, Babe", "You Really Got A Hold On Me," by She & Him, and one of my original songs (actually, the only song I've ever finished, haha). Everyone said I did great, so I was super excited! Daniel recorded me on my camera so I'll upload those soon and you all can see me! I was like, "You have to record it, so I can prove I actually did it!" This outfit is a little bit rock and roll with the boots, leather jacket, and shredded t-shirt.. maybe that's what made me decide to just go for it and do open mic! Hm....

While we're on the subject of music, I got the new Radiohead album yesterday. So good. I think so far my favorite tracks so far are Lotus Flower, Codex, and Giving up the Ghost. I pretty much just listened to it on repeat all afternoon, haha. It reminded me that I lost some of my older Radiohead albums when my iPod crashed and lost all my music. I need to get my hands on Kid A, OK Computer and The Bends. I have pieces of them, but not the whole albums, ugh! But, If you want to get your little hands on the new album, go here!

down home

Yesterday was one of those days where I wish I had a photographer instead of a me-running-back-and-forth-from-the-tripod. I did two sets of outfit photos and I was displeased with both! Ugh. By the time I realized what happened with the second one the sun was setting and I'd lost my light, so instead, here is a little sneak peek into my blogging zone. I don't have an office or studio type deal to do my work- I kind of have always liked to be in a living area when I do my work. Back when I was in high school I'd do all my homework in the kitchen, and in college I'd do my school work in the living area, not hidden away in my bedroom. I don't like the idea of being locked up in this little room where no one passes through and I'm just alone... trapped with my work! Haha, maybe that makes for a more productive work environment, but I don't really like it. Though, I would prefer to have a space where I can organize all my work things. Right now my printer/scanner is in a corner of my kitchen so whenever I use that I have to move my whole set up to the kitchen counter. I do have a table I could work at, but I just love sitting in a comfy couch when I do my work.
I also love going to my favorite coffee shop and sitting right by the huge windows overlooking the main street, occasionally stopping my work to enjoy the warm glow of the sun, or to watch people strolling about to and fro. It's nice to just sit with a cup of coffee and a bagel with the background noise of people's daily lives surrounding me. Maybe one of these days when Dan and I go there I'll have him snap some photos so you can see my other favorite blogging locale.

I got a few more spring/summery pieces at Target the other day, and this top was one of them. It's so light and airy, it'll be perfect for warm summer days. For now a cardigan is still 100% necessary. Bare legs are still a bit sketchy right now too, but I only spent a little bit of time outdoors yesterday, so it was doable. I added some black leggings as day turned to evening for some added warmth.

In a few more blog updates, I've added a new spot on my left sidebar where you can find a link to e-courses and my art portfolio! Since every seemed to love the INDIE E-Conference so much, Tieka and I have decided to turn it into an e-course that you can sign up for whenever! It'll be available at any time for you to sign up for, and at the request of a lot of INDIE conference attendees, we've also added a Personalized Blog Consultation option as an add-on (or you can get that separately, if you'd prefer to only do that). We were so thrilled that those who attended the e-conference found it so helpful, so we'd love to be able to continue to offer it to any bloggers who'd like to participate!

Mint Chocolate Chip

I'm going to just pretend that yesterday was Valentine's day instead, because it was such a lovely day. I was really productive all day and got to spend the evening with Dan playing pool and enjoying each other's company. Part of my productivity resulted in a new button in my navbar up there, "Design", which will link you to a page where you can learn more about my design work for Freckled Nest! I also finally got around to making some little buttons which you can grab if you wanna show some Delightfully Tacky love, which are located in my right sidebar right below the google friend connect thingy. I also updated my About page a bit, and have added more info to the Contact page, so check all those things out, if you like! I'm also working on getting a little portfolio of my artwork up, it's been such a long time since I had an updated artwork portfolio.

skirt/french connection via Delightful Dozen :: shoes/forever 21 via Starr
autumn ambiance dress(worn as top)/courtesy of modcloth

This skirt comes from Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage in a Delightful Dozen swap! I was so excited to style this when I saw it go up for swap. The olive-y brown color is just so rich and I love all the buttons and pockets. Textural pieces like this are so fun to style and layer. It was just barely warm enough to go out with no tights today. It's been quite sunny lately here in Tacoma (although, that might just be relative to what we're used to...) and I'm getting super excited for summer! I went to Target today and used up the last of my Christmas Target gift card and got some shorts and a top that should be perfect for lazying around on hot summer afternoons.

The colors in my outfit remind me of mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's my Mom's favorite ice cream flavor. Even though my Mom just visited me a few weeks ago I've been missing home lately! It's kind of a bummer having my family life so far away. I mean, technically, I'm living as close to them as I could possibly live without being in Alaska, which is nice. My Dad comes and visits in a few weeks and hopefully I can take a trip back up to Alaska sometime during the summer. I miss Little Bit and Simon too! Little pups, so cute.
