Red Lips Vintage Giveaway!

I have a new giveaway this week from one of my amazing sponsors, Red Lips Vintage!
"Vintage finds for girls with sunny auras and kitten souls, who dream of Paris and ice cream cones, take summertime picnics and bike rides, and savor simplicity and love."
She's offering this cute blue cotton romper, perfect for spring and summer!

bust: 30"
waist: up to 30"
length: 33"

She's got a great assortment of vintage dresses, pants, and accessories, as well as bathing suits– which I think it great! It's so hard to find cute vintage bathing suits and she's got an amazing inventory of really cute ones. I don't think I could pick just one thing from her shop, there are too many fun pieces! Make sure to head to the
Red Lips Vintage blog as well, to keep up with all things Red Lips.

To enter just go to the Red Lips Vintage shop and then leave a comment on this post letting me know what your favorite item is! This giveaway will be open until 11 pm AKST Sunday, April 4th. Open to international entrants!

I wanna be where your heart is home

Yup, I still have photos left over from Hawaii! Thank goodness, since my camera situation is kind of a bummer right now. Red hair pictures will have to wait!
I found this top at a little shop/tourist trap in Kihei, and I couldn't figure out if it was amazingly tacky or just amazing. Either way was okay with me. It had the perfect v-neck and the perfect short sleeves (I loathe most t-shirt sleeves. I want to murder whoever invented cap-sleeve t-shirts). The print reminded me of a vintage Hawaiian shirt too, so all aspects considered, it was a must-buy.

I'm interested to see how red hair effects how I dress. Or if it will change how I dress at all. So far I've been just rocking t-shirts and jeans for comfy days at work. I've decide that unless I'm feeling extremely proactive, I'm not going to "dress-up" for work. Not that I consider my usual outfits "dressing up" but they certainly aren't geared towards a 10 hour day in front of a computer. I'm far too lazy/low maintenance for such things. When I was in high school I would wake up like 15 minutes before I had to be out the door. I basically brushed my teeth and put on jeans and a tshirt and my skater shoes and left without looking in the mirror. I should find some "vintage" pictures of me in high school. It could be a fun trip down memory lane!

Okay, before I forget...

Dressin' up to Kill

I'm sure most of you have seen the rest of the Delightful Dozen style this dress. ModCloth was lovely enough to send the Delighful Dozen the Dynamite dress, and we were all going to post on the same day, but my dress decided to take a little jaunt to other places before I found it. It turned out that they had sent it to an address that had the last two numbers switched! So I ran across the street to the apartment complex there and found that address and there it was! It had been sitting on this person's porch for 20 days! I couldn't believe it was still there, they must not use their front door! It was all quite funny to me but I'm glad I finally found it and got to style it!

I love it as a sundress, but it also seemed like it would be really easy to try as a skirt, so I folded under the top and tried it out, and I really like it as a skirt too! I feel like this dress would be really fun to wear to maybe a concert or on a cool date (neither of which I have had the pleasure of attending in many months...). It could be a sweet sundress, but I wanted to kind of rock-and-roll it up by adding the lace and studded belt.

See how the rest of the Delightful Dozen styled it at facebook or the ModCloth blog!

Show and Tell Sunday

Pretty much everything Rhiannon wears is magically ethereal, so it's hard to pick just one image of her to show, but this little nude dress she wore to Barrington Hall last Saturday. She is just so adorable in all her photos, and all her vintage items are to die for.

I'm in love with the Ruche Spring Lookbook. Every Ruche lookbook is amazingly beautiful. I love the wide brim hats and freckles on the model. It's making me so excited for warmer months! Of course it snowed here this afternoon, so I'm cursing the weather.

I found the most amazing art/decor project at Design Sponge the other day...it's an enormous paint-by-number mural! I am going to do this the second I get my own place. Design Sponge is my absolute favorite interior design website. I can't go there very often because I get frustrated that I don't have my own place to decorate! I so miss my old apartment in Spokane. I loved that apartment. Someday I'll have my own place, and when I do, I'll share all my fun interior design projects!

I've been a fan of Tavi's writings for some time now. She recently posted a little photoshoot of herself wearing a gorgeous Miu Miu frock, and I was stunned at how gorgeous she looked. Not that she doesn't look pretty usually, but she looked so grown-up and sophisticated. It was almost a hint of things to come. She's so smart and well spoken that I never really considered her "looks" before, but this girl is going to grow up drop dead gorgeous in a very unique way. I'm excited to see how her style evolves as she grows.

I'd seen these polaroid scarves before and kind of forgot about them, but I just ran across them again and I wish I had the spare cash to just drop hundreds of dollars on a scarf. I love how the polaroid image becomes totally abstracted once you wrap it around your neck.
No Show and Tell Sunday today, I was busy all day doing this:

I'll do my weekly roundup post tomorrow insteadI had time to post it! Have a good Sunday!

buried at the bottom of a brackish lake

My poor camera has been taking a beating! On wednesday my tripod broke, and now my lens is broken! Blogging is a treacherous world, my friends. I feel like I need Canon to sponsor me. Wouldn't it be great if camera companies sponsored bloggers? I saw something on Tumblr about Canon having to throw away new cameras and lenses for some reason (a tragedy of epic proportions if it's in fact true), so they must have spare camera stuff right? Haha! If only! I do have a back-up lens though, so no worries, blogging will continue as usual.

When I was doing my photos by that truck the other day, I found this little stack of wood and tires. When I was younger we used to make forts and stuff down here and I wonder if this is left over from then. One of my favorite things about growing up in Alaska is all the outdoor fun we had as kids (and still have as adults!). I spent hours and hours outside tromping through the woods pretending to be a Native or a dog musher or some other rugged persona. We'd make forts and come up with imaginary stories in which we were main characters. Instead of playing "house" we used to play "bush family." I remember mushing up leaves and bark pretending to make some sort of medical salve, and "fishing" by using a stick to pull clumps of grass out of ponds (the bigger the clump of grass, the bigger the fish, obviously). I hope that when I have kids I live somewhere they can have as much creative fun as I did as a kid.

When I saw Tieka wear this dress I just fell in love with it! I was so excited when she put it up for the Delightful Dozen swap! Unfortunately, it's a little short on me! ...which is hard to imagine, since I'm only 5'1". But I worked with it and wore my favorite tights to make it mall-visiting appropriate (you'll learn why I visited the mall tomorrow. It's gonna be a BIG surprise!!! If you've been frequenting my Tumblr, you may have a clue...)

The snow is slowly melting. I saw grass today! But I still got snow all in my boots walking to my photo spot. I cannot wait until I can traipse all around taking pictures wherever I want and not have to worry about wading through snow. Speaking of weather warming up, my hair is up! That's how you know the seasons are changing. My head blanket keeps me warm all winter so I refrain from styling it, but I'm so looking forward to my hair being more than just a functional-scarf-substitute.

In other news: Jeans?(!)

I have been loving experimenting with lipsticks, but I fidget so much at work that I would probably end up looking like Courtney Love after a rough night by lunchtime. Lipstick will be relegated to after work and weekend times. I should probably just be a grown up and train myself not to touch/gnaw on my own lips. My eye make up looks pretty haggard by lunch too. I need a cone of shame to keep my hands away from my face. I'm sure I have some sort of oral fixation, which is why I should never start smoking. I would love it, just because it would be something for my mouth to do. Fact: I sucked my thumb until I was like ... in third grade.

Speaking of fidgeting, does anyone else have hair-unrest? I think it has something to do with spring-time and the changing of the seasons. The rest of the natural world is transforming, and I want to change too! We'll see what all that results in. I hate making appointments (which is why I usually do my own hair), but I'm not really in the mood to do my own hair this time. Who knows, maybe this weekend is the time for change!

Fake Plastic Trees

Waking up this week has been awful! I am not getting enough sleep. Consequently, I've been pushing back my actually-physically-crawling-out-of-bed time which means no time to think too hard about outfits/look in the mirror. I have so many outfits in my head, but not all of them are comfortable enough to spend 10 hours sitting in front of a computer. Plus, it's still pretty damn cold here at 7 am so I'm less inclined to want to go barelegged or wear lacy tights when I have to get in the car and sit down on the frozen leather seats (leather seats don't do well in extreme temperatures. You either burn your ass or it gets frozen to the rock hard seat.) Another thing to consider during morning dressing: I'm so short that my legs don't really reach the floor when I sit at my desk (yes, I am a child) so I mostly curl up in the chair with my legs beneath me or scrunched up in front of me. This means I can't be indecent since I don't want to flash my male coworker.

One lovely reader emailed me asking if I would do a little fundraising update once in a while, so that you all know my progress in the Brave Project. I thought it was a fun idea, so even though my progress is not really that far along, here's the first one!
I only put it up to 6,000, partly because that's around the price of a Winnebago, and also because any number larger than that is too frightening. Obviously once I reach that goal it's by far not the end of my fundraising, since I need to actually save up for food and gas, etc. This seemed like a good place to start, though!

Oh, and come back later today! I have another vintage giveaway for you guys, I know you're gonna love it!

Pints of Guinness Make You Strong

I think I'm getting a better attitude about school. I still don't really care much for most of the writing I'm doing, but I think I'm learning more about what I like to write about. While I loathe writing about trends and runways, I really like writing about people and places and music. Those three things just have so much more interest. I guess I could write catchy deks all day long telling you to "Release your inner child with this season’s fun-loving rompers," but there's nothing there that has any interest to me. There's no story, no emotions to describe, no conflict. No passion. I know some people can do it, but that kind of writing turns my brain to mush.

Well, I'm kind of behind on outfits. This is from St. Paddy's day! Had to wear some green. I tried to wear my green tights, but I ended up not. St. Paddy's day as a whole kind of turned out to be awful. Some how I got the stomach flu and spent some quality face time with my toilet all night. The awesome thing about being sick on St. Patrick's day is that you can't really call into work sick the next day and expect them to believe you. "No really, I have the stomach flu!" "Riiiight, get your hungover ass to work." Just my luck, right?! Haha!

I hope you guys' St. Patrick's day was more fun than mine! Geez, I'm so far behind on life, eh? I need to catch up to real time. My life needs Tivo to fast forward to the present!

Remnants from Hawaii outfits. This dress never seemed 100% right until I wore it in Hawaii. It's one of those dresses that needs heat to make it feel right. Heat and bicycles. That's one thing I miss about Spokane. The summers are sweltering and I used to bike all over the place. I remember biking to my friends' house and just drinking cold beer and margaritas and taking tequila shots with salt and lime all day long. I loved staying up late and watching the day dissolve to night, and feeling the sunburn start to tingle. The warm breeze and smell of cigarettes sitting out on the porch. Sitting on ratty old couches outdoors and not talking, but listening to all the different conversations taking place all around.

Tomorrow I'll reveal the Baby Says Boutique giveaway winner and a new giveaway!

Show and Tell Sunday

  • I saw this outfit on Blushing Ambition, and I fell in love with the simple elegance of the combinations she put together. I have been mulling over my own wardrobe in my mind trying to figure out how I can put together something similar. Unfortunately I don't have a cute toggle closure duffle coat, but perhaps a peacoat would suffice...
  • Ah the glories of Netflix. After learning about 50's style in my History of 20th Century Fashion class, I decided to watch Rebel Without a Cause on insta-netflix, which then caused me to watch East of Eden immediately afterwards. Mini James Dean marathon. What. A. Fox. Can you believe I'd never seen a James Dean film before? P.S. why are modern film credit fonts so not as cool as these vintage ones??? I want a new header image with "Delightfully Tacky" written in the "East of Eden" font, please!
  • I've known Cassie, from Beehives, for over a year now. We both lived in Spokane and I actually featured her photography in my magazine there, but I thought I'd share her with you guys. Hers are some of the most ethereal images I've ever seen. We were going to do a photoshoot back when I lived there but then we never ended up getting together (which I totally regret). She's incredible, I hope she never stops taking photos.
  • I reblogged a picture from Grunge Manners on tumblr a couple days ago and decided to click over to her blog and see more of this ravishing red-head. I love her carefree rock and roll vibe and OBVIOUSLY her amazing hair. I feel like my style has become a more prim than it's ever been before, and while I'm okay with that in some applications, I still love this kind of look. I mean, I am the girl who walked around for at least two weeks dressed like David Lee Roth. And no, I didn't lose a bet.
  • More pretty pictures: LetsExplode's photos are fun times.
  • I've been seeing the Orla Kiely SS10 collection making the rounds on in the blogosphere, and I absolutely love all the fun retro dresses. Unfortunately for this poor soul, my budget for dresses is like $7.00. Hello Value Village, goodbye gorgeous Orla Kiely dresses. I'll see you in my dreams...

Do you guys ever buy something thinking, "oh man, I love this! It's perfect!" and then you get home and you're like, "I have no clue how to wear this..."? I bought a black bodycon dress with lace sleeves back on black friday thinking how I had wanted one for a while, but it turned out that it was just a little bit too big so unless I get it altered, it doesn't really fit just right and makes me feel uncomfortable. But! A couple nights ago I decided to try and layer it underneath other dresses and it was like a whole new universe opened up before my very eyes. I want to wear it every day now with all my other dresses. I love how the lace just makes any frilly dress just a little bit edgy. Amazing! When I got this rainbow dress from the Delightful Dozen swap, I just knew I had to wear it with my lace bodycon dress.

It's funny how one little thing can totally spruce up your wardrobe, or make you see your wardrobe in a whole new light. I like that it's getting warm enough now to wear bare legs without people thinking I'm totally crazy. Okay, I realize most of you would consider below 40 degrees "crazy," but I feel spring in the air, people! The eau de printemps is slight, but by jove, it's there, I say! Look! Dry pavement!
Dry pavement means greater latitude in my footwear choices! The days of wearing snow-practical shoes are nearly behind! I found these shoes at F21 on sale for like ten bucks.. which wasn't the best part. Best part: they actually fit my feet. What?! Okay, well, they're technically a size and a half too big, but they lace up, which means I can lash them down to my baby feets! I really want a pair of these cute Seychelles, but they are a size and a half too big at their smallest size too, and I'm not willing to spend a hundred bucks to find out if they'll fit. Alas.

Last but not least, a few bullet points to note:
  • If you're on Chictopia and you're as much a fan of Keds as I am, submit your photos to the Keds Style Gallery! Also, Chictopia is having a Keds contest too! I only have a blue pair of slip ons, but I've been pining for a pair (or multiple pairs) of the classic lace up sneakers for years. One in every color please!
