Life on the road has been good. As of yesterday, I've ceased my eastward bent and have started the long trek back to the west. It feels strange to be chasing the sun as it sets, rather than running from it. It also means I need to invest in some decent sunglasses, or I guess just start driving earlier in the day so I'm not on the road when the sun is blazing in my eyes. I actually really love driving westward. It reminds me of when I would drive on I-90 from Spokane to Seattle back in college.
Last night I made some baked potatoes for dinner! They turned out relatively decent. I'm not a great cook. Probably because I get in these ruts where I pretty much just eat one thing. Hence, the breadth of my cooking ability is pretty much nil. For like 6 months in college all I ate was bruschetta on toasted slices of french bread. Now, my "thing" is thin slices of extra sharp cheddar on slices of artisan bread baked with garlic cloves in it. YUM. Oh, and also: a sort of breakfast-y medley of diced potatoes, onion and scrambled eggs. Now you know everything I've eaten on this entire trip. Well, that and chili, top ramen, or pork and beans because I have those things in the Winne always since they last pretty much forever. Whenever I cook something I've never cooked before I feel like an adult. Silly, I know. Maybe when I'm done with the trip and am living in a house I'll make an effort to try harder to make real food... from like ... recipes! Whoa.

A long time ago I found Elsie's 27 before 28 list and decided to make my own 23 before 24 list. This was months ago and I'm sure I was like, "I'll share it with you guys!" and then totally forgot to do so. So, when she posted her new 28 before 29 list, I remembered that I made my list, so here it is:

There are definitely a couple I'll have to roll over to my 24 before 25 list, but I think I'm faring pretty well on ye olde list! I loved the idea of making a yearly list of goals. I think it really keeps yourself gunning for the things you want most in life. I mean, I'm sure everyone has some semblance of a "bucket list" but those are so... un-impending. You've got your whole life to do that, with a yearly list I feel like it's easier to force yourself to accomplish the things you really want to do.
As I was driving today I got all flustered thinking about how people say stuff like, "oh, I could never do that." I just want to be like, "Says who!!?" Who is this person telling you that you can't do the things you want to do in life? Is it other people? Is it yourself? Is it fear? And if so, where is that fear coming from? For some people, there are responsibilities and commitments that we've made that prevent us from doing certain things, but I think that by and large most people just don't do things because for some reason or another they think they can't. I mean, granted, sometimes we have to wait a bit to do the things we want. Sometimes we have to work hard to be able to do them. Sometimes they are spontaneous, but sometimes they require a lot of planning and effort. Either way, I definitely suggest that you guys make a list like this one, or even a seasonal list, whatever you feel like will make you face yourself and look at your deepest desires and allow yourself to reach for them.

Such a beautiful post!
I love the idea of having goals, so should really get on making a list.
I guess the fear for me would be not achieving much of it?!
Only one way to find out :)

Finished already?! What for?
Awww Elizabeth I wish you were coming north! I adore your blog, and following your journey in the winne has been so much fun. If you change your mind and want to come north to RI, I'd love to show you around! ; )

I've been eating nothing but twice baked and roasted potatoes lately - nothing else sounds as good :) And I also can't stand when people say they can't do something. If you really, really want to, you can do pretty much anything. Why put up that roadblock right from the start?
It makes me so happy to see I'm not the only one who makes these lists, they're so great to have and such a motivation to get you to do things with your life.
I have a yearly list and a bucket list although I just refer to it as "The List" and everytime I think of something awesome I add to it. I want to experience as much as I can in my life and it's so satifying to cross things off even the things that weren't as great as you expected xoxo
Your list is awesome! I love how 'Learn More About Beer' is on it. hehe You're the best! Safe travels westward!

i just saw elsie's list and i'm so inspired to make my own! i love yours, it's amazing to know that you've accomplished so much of it, like your winne trip!
Fun list! I am working on my "22 Before 23" list right now! If you come back through Phoenix, hit me up! :)
it's inspiring to make a list like that. I'm going to do the same! just 'cause, I need some motivation in my life (=
Wonderful post. Baked potatoes and lots of inspiration. I loved your list. I especially enjoyed #6, #22, and #23. I hope you have a great week!
"... that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ."
Colossians 2:2-5
you're doing pretty well on your list!!
i wrote a 21 things I want to achieve before I'm 21 back in March. I have just over 4 months left but it gets exciting when I achieve my goals.
Good luck completing the rest of them!!

Noooo! Come up to New England and visit me! You haven't seen that part of the world yet, why come all the way over to the East Coast and not go North? Please!!!!! :)
Love this post. I am envious of your self discovery on this journey of yours and that first photo is gorgeous! I can't own enough large sunglasses :)
I made a one goal list for this 28th year of my life and that was to run a half marathon which I did October 9th here in good old CT!
I definitely plan on making a longer one for next year though and you have pushed me to start thinking about it now :)
<3 Rachel
i literally am going to write one of these lists this minute! thankyou
:)

I love that you made this list and have set goals for yourself. One of my goals was to travel to Europe and I did last year! I remembering telling my friends that I was going to do so, and they were like "I could never do that." Like you said, I don't understand why people say that. These girls that have said this to me are the same age with the same degree of school and could easily do so. All it takes is time, ambition and logic. Anyone can reach their goals if they set their minds to it. I love reading your blog because you do so many different things and are not afraid to do so!
:D
such an inspiring post!:)

I just started following your blog and I find you truly inspirational. In fact I am making a list of 30 before 30 today!
I love this post so much.
For me it's always fear that holds me back, be it fear of failure or fear of looking like an idiot in front of others.
The reasons may be different from person to person, but the outsome is always the same, you miss out. Which is why I love reading your blog so much.
Thanks for sharing!
Kim
P.S. I think you and Winnie should go global and visit the UK. ;)
oh good lists!!! love your handwriting!!
It's so funny because I was browsing through your old posts for extra inspiration and I read the one where you were like "I made a 23 before 24 list! I'll post it later!"
And then you did. Much, much later. Seeing as it is not likely that I will accomplish much between now and my birthday next month, I will hold off and make one of these lists for my next year (procrastination aaargh).
wooohooo on your #6!! i LOVE it when my sisters represent to the WORLD! in LOVE with your BLOG :))
xo.

@Faith
I've RV'd in New England before, back in 2007, so I haven't missed out!
that's an awesome list! my birthday's coming up right after christmas, and I fancy that idea rather than a bunch of "new year's resolutions" that are always broken anyway ;)
ps- I've recently started using recipes also, after years of being like "I can make cereal! and toast!" and I looove it
xo leanna
"start a book" made me laugh. you should start one! not finishing is the easy part ahahahahahahaha
i love your handwriting!
I also make lists. And sometimes I don't even check back on them until the end of the year and get surprised when I've finished a big amount. I guess it's the act of writing them down that etches it into your subconscious.
Another thing I do is make a visual collage of things I want to accomplish. Sometimes from magazine pictures and all. It works well too! Seeing that visual reminder daily :)

What a great idea! I have a sort of mental "life goals" plan, but they are far too extraordinary to achieve while I'm still in school. Aw too bad my birthday just past last month. I'll start one for my 18th birthday I suppose...
very nice list. How is everything going with getting to know Jesus again? I see you have done a few things that are on the list! This is inspiring. I have no idea what I would write on my list. hmm. My goals are usually just to continually grow and learn more about applying my faith through actions and to have those speak loudly rather than just being "talk".
What a great post, very inspiring. I love the ida of making a yearly post because like you pointed out a bucket list is very un-impending. I will have to sit myself down and make one ( a 25 things before I turn 26..omg I turn 26 next year!)
i love this list!! i especially love "get to know more of Jesus again" he's on my list too : )

Ahhh!
I love how you put "join a hockey team".
I just started iceskating more often a couple months ago. I love it! And I'm really interested in getting into the game.
It made me happy when I saw an older post of you playing hockey. It makes me really want to get out there and learn!
Great list though!
Do you song in play music? That's what I got from reading some of the things on your list. If you do you should make a YouTube video and post it :)
Elsie has inspired all of us! I made a goal list too. I think yours is awesome - very real. I admire you for being such an adventurer. I have never left my home state on my own and I think you are so brave. Maybe I will put that on my list!! Go to a different state by myself! HA! Thanks for the idea!
wow this is such a great idea, I definitley want to try this...thanks!
Just bumped into this post, one question. Did you get your tattoo yet??
xL
