walking is still honest

Okay, something that cracks me up about these pictures is the football players in the background. During pretty much all my photo sessions in this back alley, the middle school by our house has football practice, so the whole time I'm taking pictures I hear the coaches yelling at the players.

I got this cute romper from Vintage Virgin via the Delightful Dozen, and when I went to style it I wanted to kind of try layering more and giving some of her style a try, and I ended up styling it very similarly to her! Haha, serves me right for not checking and seeing how she styled it first. Oops. Oh well. I think I've only ever worn this little crocheted vest thing once before, and I love it but never feel like I know how to make it work, so I'm glad I pulled it out.

style conductor romper/modcloth via vintage virgin (delightful dozen)
crochet vest/target :: necklace/handmade :: shoes/vintage

I still have a huge pile of clothes I was going to sell in my shop tacky "garage sale" but I've been pondering it more and I'm thinking of taking the rest of it over to the Covenant House and giving it to homeless teens. I might grab a couple of my more favorite pieces and sell them to you guys, but selling stuff online stresses me out- too much logistics for me while I'm trying to get my life whittled down to travel in the Brave. I was hoping for a little bit of income from selling off my old clothes, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather give it to people who need it than cause myself stress over some inconsequential income.

If you guys remember, I had you all ask me questions with the promise of a video response, and I finally go to it! I'm splitting the questions up into groups of quasi-related topics, so this first one is all about the Brave trip!

Your trip sounds like so much fun!! Where in Michigan are you planning on visiting? I live in Michigan, the lower part, sort of near Detroit!

You didn't draw Canada on your map! Ha, I guess your not planning on spending anytime here but you are travelling through B.C which is absolutely gorgeous!

Have you been to Vancouver Island? It's my favorite. You could take they ferry to the island, see the sights, make sure you go to Coombs (cute village market with the best organic fruit and veggies), then take another ferry down to Seattle.

Just a thought.

Love your hair.

It can be quite difficult to pull off crochet or know how to wear it well; the crochet sleeveless jacket is a great option - not too much, not too little.

I feel like you should go see some of Canada. It is SUCH a beautiful country. I highly highly highly recommend PEI. I just got back like last week and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Quebec is very nice too, but the whole french thing might be an issue. But, God. It is just so gorgeous. Also the Prairies are very nice. But yeah. I highly recommend Canada. Because we're just really awesome. Whuddup.

I live in Texas! If you go, you should definitely stop in Austin! It's my favorite city in Texas and I think you will love it. It's gorgeous and if you go downtown they have awesome stores and every little food place is so good (not to mention affordabl). So ya (:
I love your blog... and your hair.

Love when you do videos! lol. That sounds like such a fun trip and writing a book from it would be so cool! I wish I could do something like this! You might have mentioned it before but how long are you going on the trip for?

I can't wait for you to go on your trip and share your adventures with us all! I'd love to be able to travel around the US so I'll be living my dream through you haha! Although I am supposed to be going over to Pennsylvania next summer with my parents to drop my brother off at a BMX camp if I save enough so we might get to do a mini tour of that area! :D

aww I love the video. you are adorable. I love your voice! so sweet! My husband makes fun of me for saying things like "big little" or "big giant" and you said it!!! It made me happy to know I'm not the only one.

Woah that is indeed an amazing trip you have planned! I hope that goes well. amazing. The east coast that you won't be seeing will be cheering you on (well I will be anyway). All those places you have been talking about seeing are definitely well planned and sound amazing!!!! I laughed at "see what that whole thing is about" for Texas. I haven't been there either. If you ever come close out to the east. . .N. NJ is crazy . . probably better off you don't go near it (i've lived here forever but the southern part is so much prettier, although a little scarier depending on where you go too). . .Pennsylvania and north NY is pretty though near the amish areas. how long is this plan going on for anyway?? Sounds like a long time. a BRAVE book sounds like something cool. . . with photos of your outfits and where you go included. . . a photojournalism experience. man I want to go to Alaska and Oregon areas myself. . .okay I've only watched the first 8:03 minutes of your video so far. . i'll finish the rest later because I have two sons who need my attention. this comment is huge enough.

I follow Vintage Virgin and think I remember that outfit before. you each set it apart though very nicely!!

You are one brave soul, Elizabeth. I'd be shakin' in my boots if I didn't have every step of my journey planned out, right down to the names of the RV parks I would be staying at.

I had an idea about your quest for college lectures to listen to while driving. iTunes U has a great selection of lectures on a variety of topics (everything from history to psychology to genetics). You can download single lectures or an entire class' worth of lectures for free. Just pop the lectures onto an iPod, get one of those cassette tape adapters for the Brave, and you've got your road trip learnin' taken care of. (Unless the Brave has an 8-track player, which would be both sad and hilarious at the same time.)

Good luck on the trip and I'm really looking forward to hearing about your adventures on the road.

P.S. I gotta say, I second the suggestions of going to Canada. If you need some inspiration regarding road tripping through the Great White North, watch the movie 'One Week' with Joshua Jackson. Funny, heartwarming, and it makes you figure Joshua for all those years on Dawson's Creek.

Yay, you're going to Texas on your trip! I have lived in Texas my entire life and have not really seen the whole state... I live/go to school in the south-eastern part of Texas, and I've never been to west Texas, which is a shame, because I hear the Big Bend area is gorgeous. I hope you enjoy your time in Texas, there's a LOT to do and see!

Man, you are the prettiest girl ever. No joke. :) I loved watching this video - your voice is exactly what I pictured it to be. Sometimes I do that, I wonder what bloggers voices will sound like (weird, I know) but I loved all your questions&answers. Im so excited for you to go on your adventure. You're brave. (how appropiate) Have a great rest of your weekend Elizabeth! x

First off, that romper is just awesome. And you styled it very well. :)

Thanks for your FAQ video. I love that you're seriously pursuing your dream. It seems like most people will talk about doing something but never actually do it. But you're taking this by the horns, aren't you? I would love to do what you're doing one day. Perhaps when I get back from Panama (as of recently, my family and I are sailing there in a couple months). But being on the road is definitely something I love. Glad to find a kindred spirit in you, Elizabeth.

God bless and have an amazing adventure!

ha I loved the video! Your trip is gonna be so much fun. You definitely make me want to go to Washington state- i've traveled a decent amount of the US but I've never been there, & I've always wanted to! Oh and don't forget to stop by beautiful New England!! :)

You are so adorable! And I mean that in the least condescending way. Your voice is just how I imagined it -- feminine but plucky. Aw, this was so fun to watch. And when you talked about maybe finding some temporary companions on your journey, and people being swayed by the Brave's charm... I was totally reminded of Doctor Who. You could be the next Doctor. I'm sorry if this reference totally went past you. :s

Anyway, yay! How exciting! Can't wait for the next vid. :)

You should come over to Louisiana if you are already in Texas (although Texas takes foooorrever to travel through). Come see New Orleans! It's awesome! Definitely different culture/feel from the rest of the South. If you come in the spring time there are a ton of weird regional festivals that go on (crawfish, shrimp, strawberry, etc.).

The crochet vest is pretty fun, I loved how you ended up styling it! As for audio books, as an Arizonan may I suggest some Louis L'Amour? He's as western as they get, although perhaps not as intellectual as they come... haha! But Arizona will a great place to visit in the winter. Although it's still warm, it may get in the lower 90's ;) Your trip sounds like a blast!

I love this romper on you! I've been a little afraid to try a romper ... I've convinced myself they aren't right for my shape. I'll have to try one on after seeing how great this one looks on you.
I love your video! So cute! :)

aw, preciousness all over that video!

I do have to add though....

Louisiana is boring-especially North Louisiana-so on your way up to Nashville you should stop by Arkansas. Have your fun in south Texas then head up toward Dallas-it's five hours south of Little Rock. On your way up to Little Rock, make a detour in Hot Spring, and call me! There's lots of cool history there (gangsters and bath houses), and I'd be honored to be your tour guide. Then you can drive to Little Rock, stop for some tea and vinyl, and then head on your way to Memphis. Then Nashville. Got it all mapped out for ya. :)
