transcontinental

Well, my New York plans are finally nailed down, after some finagling and reorganizing. Unfortunately I booked my plane a few days before I found out about the IFB conference, which was the one thing I was really looking forward to, so I bit the bullet and spent a lot of money to switch my plane flight. But I'm really excited to have everything set to go now. I just have to figure out what to pack and how I'm going to fit it all in my carry on.
I always fly with a carry on, never a checked bag. Not only does it save money, since pretty much all airlines charge to check a bag nowadays, but I like it because I always know where my bag is and never have to wait at the baggage claim. The only thing that's a little troublesome is the fluid restriction. As you can imagine, the amount of conditioner I need to un-dread my hair is rather significant. Oh, and when I go to NYC I ride the subway, so I can't even imagine trying to do that with a big giant checked bag!

Maybe I'll do a post on how I pack my carry on to be uber-efficient. Since I live in Alaska, I fly relatively frequently. Unless you want to drive down the AlCan (which takes around 5 days), flying is the only way to get out of the state. I feel like I'm one of those business people who fly all the time for work. I know exactly how to get through security quickly, and how to organize everything properly for efficient flying. I have a little folder where I keep all my flight and travel info/papers. I always look up maps online of airports I've never been to before so I know where I'm going, and I google map pretty much every route I'm going to be taking at my destination unless I know the city. Haha, I'm such a goon. I guess I just like to be prepared. I'm all about flexibility, but I'm not a fan of being caught without a backup plan.

Flying is such a drag these days! Don't you wish it could still be novel and fun like the 60s?

You are so beautiful, Elizabeth!!! Your hair, that DRESS, the Brave!!

So jealous you are going to NYC -- I follow Tieka's twitter and I know she is so excited you changed your plans and when I saw you did I got so excited for the two of you!! Take lots of pictures! Have fun!

P.S. I love being prepared, you're not a goon, you're smart!

Definitely do a travel tip post! I have never flown so I need some pointers. When I do travel, I drive and I can take pretty much anything I can thing of. How on earth do you do it?

Great colors in that plaid top; excellent vintage find!

I totally agree with you on carry-on bags. I almost always carry on and I find the liquid regulations to be quite annoying. When I'm going away for extended periods of time, I tend to either bring multiple travel bottles of the same item or try to purchase something cheap when I arrive and then just ditch it when I leave.

Good luck and have a safe, fun trip!

Gorgeous. Have a good trip! I had a job that required a fair amount of traveling and we had wranglers who got us all from point A to B. I got so spoiled - didn't have to think of a thing.

I love your shirt!

And yeah, every time I check a bag at the airport I just regret not doing carry on. You're smarter than me! And I'm so happy for you that you get to go to the IFB conference! I shall live through you vicariously.

I really need to start flying with only a carry-on... I find it hard when going for more than a few days though. What kind of bag do you use that you can fit a decent amount of clothes in? Honestly, if you COULD do a tutorial on packing a carry-on for a week or so trip, that would be so useful.

Anyways, I really love this outfit. The dress (which I thought was a skirt) is just beautiful.

Oh my gosh, I need to be like you. I was planning on packing a giant suitcase to check, but now I'm nervous! I was going to pack an outfit into a carry on just in case they lose my luggage, and I won't be completely out of clothing.. but now maybe I'll try to fit everything into a carry on.. eep! I'm so nervous!

Oh, you totally should do a post on how you pack. I love to travel but I'm terrible at packing. Packing stresses me out. :/ Seriously, you should.

I live 20 mins. from NYC and when I go in there, I always take someone with me who used to live there (thankfully we know quite a few, and some that still do live there). I'd get so lost in the subway even with all the transfers and all. It is crazy there! Hope you have someone to help you there. Have a great time!!!!!
beautiful photos again!
