The Southern Cross

Lately I've been wanting to work at coffee shops again. I mean, I don't really like the customer aspect of being a barista, I don't know maybe I just had some bad customers. But I love making espresso. Maybe I'll get to pick up some barista jobs here and there while I'm on the road. Clearly I'm aching to leave my current job if I'm pining after being a barista. I never thought I'd say I wanted to make coffee again.

I'm hoping RVing will (somehow) strengthen my arms. Since the last 9 months have been spent doing basically nothing but sitting in front of a computer screen, I've become a pile of no muscle and general out-of-shape lameness. I love being active, and the past year or so has been particularly inactive for me. Growing up I was always running around outside, and then from 10 y/o on I rode horses competetively, which was probably when I was in the best shape of my life. Now I struggle to lift the file boxes in the back room at work, which makes me simultaneously depressed and angry. I hate feeling weak. Also, I think I have some sort of tomboy complex which makes me want to be way more hardcore than the boys I know. Currently, my hardcore level is far too low. Maybe I'll go do pushups tonight...

It's the time of year that nasty huge spiders come out and they're all over. Makes it difficult to go tromping around outside. I'm not as scared of spiders as I was when I was younger, but I still would rather avoid them altogether. Why are spiders so damn scary? They're relatively harmless besides being nasty looking and creepy crawly. Last week at work I was just sitting at my desk working on something in Illustrator when my hand kind of had an itch so I looked down and this spider was just perched right there on my hand while I was clicking the mouse and everything. I squealed and lept up, so creepy. I'm glad my coworker was gone. Luckily I was the only one in the room so no one saw my spazz attack. Of course the rest of the day my hand kept feeling phantom spiders.

i know what you mean about barista work! i did it all through high school and then some. now that i have a desk job staring at a computer for waaay too long everyday, i feel SO gross. i love being on my feet, being busy and interacting with people.

hopefully you'll catch a job or two on the road! :)

Haha, phantom spiders!

Love your nail color. And yeah... I haven't been to the gym in forever, and I feel like such a lump. It is frustrating when your body doesn't quite do what you want it to do.

I love the soft, evening light in these photos.

This dress is very lovely! I have a huge phobia towards spiders! They are so creepy but the little one's are kind of funny the way they look. xXx

Totally trying to overcome my fear of spiders right now too. I don't understand why they scare me so much - most of them around here are harmless.

Eeek! That spider story was scary. We don't have very big spiders in my area, but I constantly feel like they're crawling on me in bed at night. Weird. o_O

I have a dull desk job, too (I'm reading your blog at work! Hi!), and miss my days as a barista. I was one for, goodness, nearly two years! It was actually the first job I could find out of college. I do miss making espresso, but definitely not the customers.

But I feel gross and out of shape, too. I try to go for runs when it's not too hot out. The only recompense I have from living in such a quiet area is that there are lots of pretty trails and places to run, all by the water. Not too shabby!

oh man, i am the exact same way- i hate feeling weak too. i think it's because i'm so small and i've been told so many times that i can't do certain things. it just makes me want to do them even more and be uber strong

& i hate spiders. i'm not scared of them persay but the skeez the hell out of me.

i am definitely a tomboy and I have always hated when people especially guys underestimate my strength. Part of my job requires heavy lifting from time to time, so my upper body is doing pretty decently about now. But i could definitely stand to be in better shape, so i hear ya!

I love the name of that dress. The lighting in these photos looks amazing. Can't wait to read about your RV adventure!

I always feel weak. My equally petite sister and mother always manage to be stronger than me somehow...
Also, I contend that spiders are terrifying b/c of the way they move...it's just so odd and seemingly unnatural.

Ik, I feel for you, with your weak arms - going from studying a sport course and exercising every day to working in an office for 18 months has turned my arms to flab. I'm struggling with this never-ending Australian winter, I just want heat so I can run around outside again!
I love the shot with the plane in the background, it's like "yeah i chill out with planes sometimes"

Do you have your pilot license? I'm getting mine soon :)

love your shoes.

I work at a desk job too...it's really hard to stay motivated and make yourself stay active. Plus, I live in Tennessee, so it's ridiculously hot outside. I can't wait for the weather to cool down so I can take lunch break strolls.

I love your photos by the truck they look so great!

I just started working out when college started and I feel SO much better now. I'm a runner so I'm used to being in really good shape but this summer I didn't do much and lost all my muscle. It's good to be getting back in shape!

I always wanted to work in a coffee shop. Maybe, you should just buy an espresso and sell it out of your RV. You can call is Brave Coffee! I love how dainty these heels are and I would have died if I saw a spider on my hand. They give me the creeps!

Man, I know what you mean about feeling weak. When I'm surfing I feel great and my arms are all toned but come winter I'm a weakling because the water is too cold and I'm too cheap to hash out the money for a wetsuit. lol

Spider on the hand...been there. Spiders are not my favorite thing either.

Your outfit is great, by the way. The whole thing. The dress is pretty and the shoes are just amazing.

I've been feeling the same way lately about working in a coffee shop! I used to be a barista in downtown grand rapids and it was honestly so fun. I loved making drinks! I always tell myself I want to do it just one day a week or something ;)
