heart beats, double time

This is the most pulled together I've been in days! Okay, and it's kind of a false sense of "pulled together." I got this dress in the mail today and my mom brought it to me when we had lunch together, aaaaand I totally changed in the bathroom at lunch so I could put it on. Whenever I get something in the mail I have to immediately rip it open and put it on. Why is real mail so exciting? I mean, emails are exciting, but real mail... it's like Christmas!
I was going to save this dress for NYFW, but I had it on and was loving it, so here it is! This is actually the most expensive dress I've owned since my prom dresses, and I don't even know if those were more expensive than this dress. Luckily it was on sale and I had the last of my gift card leftover, so I thought I'd get a designer dress. Pretty fancy stuff! I really love it. I was afraid that it wasn't going to fit, but it actually fits perfectly! Phew. I hate sending back things. Buying clothes online can be stressful sometimes.

I've been working on this bag on and off the last couple weeks and I finally finished it! I know, I'm such a goon. Hey man, I'm a girl in love, okay? I'm planning on going on my first camping trip with the Brave this weekend! I need to actually get out and run it, doing all the hook ups at the campsite and stuff. We're still not sure if the heat is working even though we thought the pilot light was fixed. We'll see. I'm just excited to see my little Brave Map in my sidebar move out of Anchorage! Seriously, that's probably what I'm most excited about. It's kind of like being excited about checking things off your "to do" list. That little marker has been stuck in Anchorage for far too long!

And a quick question for you readers, I got an email asking me for some inspiration for mens vintage-y style, and I haven't been so much into the guy blogs lately, so I'm kind of out of the loop when it comes to mens vintage style. Do you guys follow any great guy blogs? My little brother would also probably be interested in any suggestions you have. He's 16 and a pretty hip fellow. He's much more self confident when it comes to style than I was in high school. People kinda make fun of him for wearing skinnier jeans and scarves and stuff, but I think he's a pretty cool cat. I used to do a Menswear Monday feature for him... maybe I'll bring something like that back. I have a hard time keeping weekly features like that going, so it might just be something I do when inspiration hits.

Haha, I'm the same exact way when it comes to getting deliveries! I definitely tore open my Delightfully Tacky package (F21 ruffle dress) as soon as I got it. I then put it on and danced around like a nut, lol! I was also nervous that it wouldn't fit!

The color of your dress is gorgeous! I love how you styled it with the Minnetonkas and scarf. I would wear this outfit all the time, if it were mine.

Good luck with getting the Brave ready for camping. I am excited for you!

The last picture of you is so cute. Whenever I read your blog, I feel like I'm talking to Zoey Deschenal, except, I like you more because you're real! A menswear feature would be pretty cool. My boyfriend would love it. Haha! Oh!!! And I was looking through your past posts for a specific look for inspiration, and found out you're 5'1", which made me oh so happy because I'm only 4'11"! Yay for being petite!!

The colour looks so beautiful on you. And the dress fits perfectly, so simple but perfect. :)

Love your embroidered bag actually.

Real mail/packages are the best! With an email you click, it's open, it's done. But with a package, you get to see your name on it, rip it open as the excitement builds, and then take it out and try it on. One of the best feelings ever!

I don't know of any good menswear inspiration, but when you find some, be sure to post the links!

I'm no help with menswear blogs, I don't actually read any right now. I want to say that Vintage Vixen's husband has a menswear blog... but i can't remember.

real mail is amazing! I just squealed and took photos of a vintage dress I had mailed to the office. (Restraining myself from trying it on here).

For your little bro I'd recommend Style Salvage - I'm a big fan and its menswear focused with great links:

I agree about getting mail. No matter how bad a day I've had, getting something besides a bill in the mail always makes me feel better!

You and the Brave should come down to Tennessee! Actually...not really. It's hotter than you know where down here. *wipes sweat from eyebrows*

I love that color of red! And your bag--I've been doing a lot of embroidery lately, too. As a longtime lurker on your blog, I can't wait to see how the Brave does on its first trip out!

Wow, i went to the link you provided to the dress you're wearing and you look ten times better in it than the model! And i'm loving the idea of making these bags and things with the brave on them, very nice

Yes! Do more guy outfits! I love fashion so much, its fun to look at different guy styles too! Hell, maybe even get a little inspiration! :) I've also been wandering over to the Men's section at thrift stores to try and dress my boyfriend, but alas, none of my suggestions have so far worked on him....

I want to look up your Menswear monday posts now!!

P.S. You look amazing in your dress! So classic, will look good forever!

Love the dress, the color is great! And good job on the bag, it's amazing! I love to do that kind of crafting with my hands. I decided the other day that I need to learn how to knit, but maybe I should learn how to embroider too!

For mens' blogs, you must read. STREET ETIQUETTE. I love it! They are easily the chicest (is that a word?) men on the web, they wear lots of vintage clothes, and they even go into the history of the clothes they wear. It's awesome.

That dress is so cute and looks amazing on you! I have red hair + tend to shy away from wearing red near my face but you pull it off so well!

Cute embroidery on the bag too:)

The Brave bag is very well done. you are an artist! good job.
My husband reads a fashion blog, but only one and they are those high fashion magazine and runway type of entries. I don't remember the url though.

Can I just say that I LOVE what you're doing? You are seriously inspiring and hands down my favorite blogger from my subscriptions. You don't try hard to put on some image and you seem really down to earth.

Little Orphan Annie!!

Love the bag. I'm clearly behind in my blog reading (I'm commenting on a post from 3 weeks ago!), but if you do decide to sell screenprint bags with campers on them and they fall at the right price point, I'll definitely buy one. In fact, I'll probably buy more than one to pass some on to my aunt and uncle as Xmas gifts, b/c they have had a total of 4 campers and 5 fifth wheels over the last 20-30 years for all their US travels, and now that they're retired, they live almost 1/2 the year in their current one. They just made their first trip to Alaska last summer, in fact.
