Look who's wearing solids! I have to admit, it's particularly difficult finding solids in my closet. I have a few, but I often just find myself pairing them with all the prints that I have. I never really thought I'd have a "signature style" or be known for doing something in fashion, but so many people comment on my print mixing! I never noticed myself doing it before all of your comments, but I've started noticing how often I wear prints and/or mix them. My mom never gave me any style rules growing up, so I never "learned" not to make fashion mistakes, which is probably why I mix prints without a second thought. I'm glad I didn't grow up being taught fashion. There are so many better things for a child to learn about and discover than the dos and don'ts of fashion.

Living simply. I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Being on the cusp of living on the road in the Brave, as well as reading and thinking a lot, has made me evaluate where I want my life to go and how I want to live. Growing up I was never really deprived of anything. Not that I asked for things, nor were things lavished upon me, I just grew up very comfortably. I was never spoiled, and I think my parents taught me very well when it comes to monetary responsibility. At the same time, I look at the life my parents have and I don't think it's the life I want. I'm not sure this is necessarily a criticism of their lives, I mean how supremely rude would it be for me be all, "Hey parents, thanks for giving me the most incredible life ever. By the way, the way you live is materialistic and stupid" That's not my intention at all (hi, Mom and Dad). I don't know, I'm just wanting a simpler existence. Less about aquiring things, and more about acquiring relationships. This has a lot more to do with spirituality than anything else. That's intentionally vague (for now). Most of the thoughts I'm having are nascent and not fully formed quite yet.

I'd like to post a lot more of what goes on in my brain. I used to do that a lot more, but recently I've just been posting outfits. Nothing wrong with that, I love posting outfits, but I really would like to include more brain activity. You're probably going to be getting a lot more of that, especially with me beginning my journey soon. Be not afraid, dear reader! I'll try to be as coherent as possible. I have a lot of brain stuff to share with you guys and feel like I haven't had the time to include it in my posts.

47 musings:
Well the solids look just as cute on you as the prints do.
I can't help but agree that being taught fashion mistakes when were young is a horrible idea. Fashion is always evolving, so what was a mistake then may be a fashion staple now. I got fashion commentary overload from my older sister when I was younger... a lot of it about the "no no" to pattern mixing. I've attempted putting clashing patterns together in my outfits, and get really self-conscious about wether or not it actually looks good. Makes it hard to establish your own identity with all these pre-set rules stuck in your head.

oooh love love love this look!

I love your print mixing, but this solid look suits you quite well too.

I have to say, I think that your brain activity is part of what makes your blog such a pleasure to read, usually because I completely agree with you. I grew up basically the same way that you did, but my parents are incredibly anti-materialistic (all of our cars were rusting into the ground and they still don't really know how to work cell phones or the dial-up internet connection). As a result, I am completely devoted to the idea of living simply and richly--so much that it's causing me to question everything in my life. I am so envious of your bravery (pun intended) and your upcoming winnebago wanderings. I am in a constant state of spiritual exploration and it saddens me that our generation is losing the ability to live because of our insatiable wanting.
Don't be afraid to post your thoughts! As much as I love outfit posts, I love when bloggers really share what's on their mind! I like to feel like i'm not the only one trying to figure out my life. Plus, for you it will be great to look back on to know what you were thnking and how youre thoughts have matured. The perfect blog is a mix I think! Your blog is my favorite of all the ones I read because you do this! Keep it up! =)
I'm always afraid of pairing purple and pink, but you pull it off so well!
Also, I quite enjoy your brain activity stuff. It makes your blog so real.
Love the pink lipstick with the pink belt! And the dark roots with the dark skirt. Very matchy-matchy, very new :]
I COMPLETELY agree with you on living more simply than the comfortable life that was provided to you by your parents. Personally, my problem is that since I have this feeling of being "stuck" at home, it shows through in my attitude towards my parents. They're not about change at all, they're about routine and comfortableness all the way. And I'm the complete opposite. I guess part of me just wants them to take them along for the ride and experience new things because I definitely believe new is necessary. But after this post, I think I'm going to lay off of a bit. It made me think and realize that they've already had their adventures. Thanks for that.
YES to more brain stuff!
I love your more substantial "thought" posts. And I'm totally with you in the simplification thing. The past few months of my life have been dedicated to finding a simple balance and skimming off all the pieces that weigh me down, or, at least, don't build me up. It's refreshingly real.
I'm excited to read your brain activity. Yours is one of my favorite blogs, partly because you always speak your mind, and you seem to have a very strong sense of self. I admire it.
Are you interested in a blogger meetup when you go through Spokane/that vicinity??
You constantly inspire me. Even in solids you rock it ;)
xoxo
I love the color block effect of this look! these colors together are perfection!

you do not wear purple alot, and I think it looks great on you. I enjoy hearing what is going on in your head. I like hearing as many different beliefs and lifestyles as possible...I think it is important
"Less about aquiring things, and more about acquiring relationships."
I love that. You should post more of your thoughts! ;)
I love all the solids, those colors look great together
I've been posting less of my brain as well because no one tends to comment on it, granted I have must less people reading my blog than you, but I feel the same as you on materialism and about the effort of building relationships with others overall as being important. I get really down in the dumps when I look at all the stuff my parents have in their house and my place is pretty barren by choice but at the same time I am so rich in comparison to people who live in other countries in the world who try to live out of a house the size of my bathroom. It is a humbling thing to always keep myself in check about those things. I do love your outfits, but it is actually nicer to me to see what people are like behind the clothes. Material things all fade away, but the spirit is what remains and will be true and useful for changing the world.
P.S. yep, I've noticed your print mixing often. It is nice though. I don't think it is a mistake. Just be yourself ;) You make things fashionable even if people may not also think it is.
Sincerely,
Victoria / Justice Pirate

LOVE this outfit. It has a nice nod to the 80s quality. And I think the colors go well with your hair.
purple is gorgeous on you!!

you look lovely, dear!

It can be hard to express to your parents that while you love them and thank them for your upbringing, that you don't want exactly what they have. However I think you're being mature about it and as respectful as you can be considering the situation!
Love all of the solids popping off of each other
Nice outfit! Like your blog. I'll follow you from now on. Hope you will follow me too.

I really love this look I think this is my favorite , maybe its because I love solids, but I'm defintely going to copy it, the only thing is I'll have to find some purple pumps, I don't have a black leather skirt, so I'll have to improvise but I do have a pink belt and a purple shirt you look awesome
I just wanted to add that I also love bloggers who share whats going on in their lives and mix it up a bit fashion is great and I love it but I love to see whats going on in peoples lives you are truly and inspiration so please keep it up!
Please do write about more of the brain stuff! That's why I love your blog -- not only do you have awesome style, but you also seem like a really interesting person. As an early-twentysomething trying to figure out what to do with my life, I like to read the thoughts of other people who are at the same stage. I'm sure you will inspire so many people with your Brave trip!
I love your "brain stuff", as you call it :) I've found that way too many fashion bloggers focus solely on their outfits & write about dull topics (usually on purpose, to avoid aaaaanything that- oh goodness - might be controversial) - you, on the other hand, are a totally different creature (meant to be a compliment!) & I'm totally in love with your blog! It's so blatant that you're a real, genuine, and caring girl, and I'm super excited to follow your trip in the Brave :)
this outfit is so fabulous! love the colors together :)
Ok, so many things!
Having somebody else's absurd fashion rules engraved in your brain is one of the worst things! I so have a problem with this. (no brown with black, no pink with red, no crazy mixed prints.) I think this came from random rude people in school. Anyway, at 26 years old, I am barely working through this.
Of course you should post more of your thoughts. It's your blog, do what you want or think. Besides we are all crazy about this blog, or we wouldn't be reading it.
I like the outfit (it's very me since I am still trapped in this solids prison), it has a cool 80s vibe going on. Maybe it's the belt.
Alright, last thing! I think you should create a little Winne/Tacky thing for your followers to pin onto their sidebar.
You know, it's weird...often when you post some of your more serious thoughts, I find that I've been thinking about the very same thing myself! I was organizing my room yesterday, and I was thinking about how much I would love to live more simply. I tend to be somewhat of a packrat, and I don't think that's what I want anymore.
Anyway, the solids look great, and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts :)
I 100% agree about teaching kids the do's and don't's of fashion.
Yay for brain activity!
1- This is my favorite post of the week on any of the blogs that I read. Very deep, and you are about to have the kind of journey in your Brave (aptly named) that I only dream of having. Wonderful. Just, wonderful.
2- Love your outfit posts, so I still hope to see them.
3- Fashion rules on kids is just awful. Many of my friends do not mix certain (CLEARLY NEUTRAL) colors even if they are solid!!! Don't get me started on my friends with prints and their lack of creativity.
I all kinds of heart this outfit. And I have to admit I did have to adjust my brain to recieve solid images. Haha, I AM pretty used to seeing you wear all kinds of print, but either way it's good. And I'm excited for more brain activity! I'm trying to incorporate a bit of that myself in my own blog :)
You look stunning. As usual.
I would love if you added more brain activity. What you write normally doesn't entirely revolve around what you're wearing, which is why I love reading it.
ooo, I like the brain stuff!! :) I usually find that my fave bloggers can put so eloquently into words, the same thoughts that I have, but can't seem to express. That's why they're my faves! Having cool pics helps too.... :)
Good luck on your spritual path!
I like brain activity, so I'm eager to see you thinking "out loud" even more :)
Even though it's different than your usual print mixing, I love this outfit! I love any sort of color on you though, it always looks great.
I've been thinking about living simply too. Sometimes, I wish I could just start over with nothing, and see what I could make of myself, if I could actually do it.
I love the solid, and that pink belt is really pretty with the black and navy.
I loving the musing you post on this blog ~ for me, fashion is so much more than just clothes. It's choices about the way we express oursleves with clothing and often how we arrive at that point of choosing is the interesting stuff. Ie ~ brain activity.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. ^w^
xox,
b. of Depict This!
I think it is natural to want a different life from your parents. You can appreciate what someone else has without ever wanting it yourself. That being said, I like how you paired purple and pink together but still didn't look like a girlie girl.
you look so different in solids. looks great still but I love all the prints on you more. And still looove that skirt :)
I like the mindset (albeit vague!) that you are describing. An issue I contemplate regularly.
I adore your hair, really like the colour. Wish my hair would grow quicker, it's at that awkward stage!
I've just come across your blog and i'm going to look through all the old posts and stuff, you seem really interesting :)

Yay brain stuff! I fully support the inclusion of more brain stuff in your blog. :)
I love the purple top beside your red hair! And I just noticed you styled the belt I sent you. It looks great on you. :)
Keep on sharing the brain activity! It brings an honesty to your work that you don't find on many style blogs.
this is very refreshingly late 80's early 90's and cute!
