The long and winding road

On Sunday we got to pick up the new puppy! Originally we were going to fly down, but the gorgeous weather on Saturday did not hold and we were socked in. Thus, a short hour flight to Soldotna turned into an 8 hour road trip. So my Mom and I hopped in the car and headed down the road. I hadn't been down to Soldotna since High School track and field meets back in the day! Anyway, since it was super rainy all the campers on the Kenai peninsula were driving back to Anchorage, and the whole way down to Soldotna the cars were backed up coming the other way. There's only one road to Anchorage from there, so everyone was bottlenecked! So the return trip took significantly longer than the time it took to get down there.
It was all worth it though! We now have a new little ball of furry energy! His name is Simon (for now, that's the name he came with, though it may get changed. Not sure yet). Little Bit is not amused. She's all, "um hi? I'm your dog! What is this?" She's very emotive. She'll just come up to you and put her paws on you and say,"pay attention to me! Love me!" She did this with Pansy too, though. I think they'll become friends eventually.

Look at little Simon blogging! He's so hip.

Did anyone ever watch that Disney Channel show about kids in the circus? It was on around the time that "Bug Juice" was on (which was also a classic). Anyway, for some reason I started thinking about that show again, and I have decided that I totally need to join the circus on my trip. I feel like that would be a really interesting culture to be a part of. They seem like a tight knit community. I'm not sure I have any circus skills...but I am an accomplished equestrian! Maybe I can wear some fancy circus outfits and ride around on an enormous horse or something? Haha. I mean, the Brave is pretty much made for circus living, right? All this thinking about circuses makes me want to wear circus-y outfits...

Haha, I love the circus idea--you could totally do the themed outfits & have a ball with it.

The puppy is too cute!

I would love to see some circus inspired outfits. Confession: I read this book called "Very Special People" that's about circus freaks(I know that's probably a terrible way to put it, but that's how they're referred to in the book) ALL the time. It's so fascinating. And it's so old their explanations for why people were born that way are laughable. For example, they surmised that the mother of the people who were particularly hairy must have been "scared by a beast, such as a lion while pregnant."

Simon is darling!!! Lately I've been looking into getting a new puppy, even though our border collie is dog enough. Perhaps I will just have to bend my husband to my will.

What a cute dog! I could totally see him in a circus-esque collar, riding on a horse with you. :-D

Nice outfit too. Love your blog.

The puppy is so adorable!! And I really like the name Simon. For some reason I have always liked human names for pets. Hence the reason I have a dog named Jack and a cat named Tina. :)

Simon is so unbelievably adorable! He looks like a tiny tiny lamb. D'awww. I sort of want to snatch him away from you... And I don't even like dogs! that's how cute he is

The new pup is too cute! The idea of joining a circus sounds interesting... although when I've been, the horse riders seem to stand on the horse as opposed to only riding it, can you do that?! That would be AWESOME! I totally remember Bug Juice but I missed the Disney circus show. What happened to Disney? They need to bring back "So, Weird" I was addicted to that show

Oh god, Simon is the cutest!

I know you're featuring Starr so you may have already seen these, but she did a few great posts with circus-inspired outfits and video last spring.

Plus she's from Little Rock too, so I have to further talk about how awesome she is :)

And that puppy and you are adorable, just in case it hasn't been mentioned.

Simon is too cute! I think you should keep the name. I just got a new dog a few weeks ago and my other dogs are doing the same "LOVE ME!" things, they are so silly.

I loved Bug Juice back in the day (probably still would if they showed it...) and I definitely rememember that circus show. It made me want to join the circus too. You definitely should do it and then tell us how amazing it is!

Oh he is just precious! Can i just say that knowing you had a dog named little bit made me wish you had another dog to name half pint (Thats what Mr. Ingles called Laura in Little house on the prairie)? haha. Just a thought. He is down right adorable.

I can just picture you camped out in the middle of the woods in an awesome get-up, with amazing hair, in the Brave, and right outside your door is a kaleidoscope of fascinating people and color.

that circus camp from the disney channel is here in vermont (circus smirkus)! the circus barn is in greensboro, which is two towns over from where i grew up and one of the towns in our union high school. when i would go to the lake there in high school, kids would be juggling and doing backflips all over the grass! pretty cool.

i wanted to write a dramatic miniseries/tv show about a circus/carnival in the thirties, but realized it's already been done. the show is called carnivale, but i was kind of disappointed - it was a little weird/creepy for my tastes. I liked the 1938 movie "Under the Big Top"!

That photo with him "blogging" next to you is too funny.
Joining the circus would an interesting thing to take on. After that experience, I think you could very well say that you are more cultured than most.

Shelby said...

what if the circus won't have you? i hear that is something you need to work you whole life towards and you can't just join up! plus, you seem to have all your teeth and therefore would be an outcast amoung outcasts.

I love the circus, and would love to join as well. I agree, it'd be a great culture and community to be a part of. I also really love circus themed outfits and decor. I have some paintings a friend did for me with a circus theme. I loves them. :)
