"Governments loathe people being free"
If you guys have been following my twitter, you've probably noted that I've been watching Pirate Radio lately. I absolutely love this movie. Mainly just because I would like to live in that movie, on a pirate radio ship, living with a bunch of crazy people in love with rock and roll. Once again, it's probably my desire to live in a compartmental space. I would adore living aboard a ship in a little bunk. And a pirate rock and roll ship? Heaven. The people on the Radio Rock ship actually remind me so much of my friends from college, and it makes me pine for the days when we were all together. I never thought I took it for granted, but now I see that I definitely did.
I guess this movie makes for one more film I'm living vicariously through...

I love how their outfits are all very 60's, yet in a really colloquial comfortable way. I mean, pretty much everything they're wearing I can imagine myself or my friends wearing. There are definitely some more quintessential 60's outfits, especially seen on the girls coming over from the mainland, but I rather like seeing the more comfortable outfits that the margins of society chose to wear. I think some of my favorite scenes are the montages of regular British people listening to Radio Rock in their PJ's, work wear, hanging out with friends, etc. What a cool time to be over there, eh? Right when all the best music was coming out. Incredible.

Carl's love interest, Maryanne, has the cutest little outfits. My favorite was by far this anchor dress. There are only brief shots of it, and she wore it with white lace tights and some adorable Seychelles-eque shoes. I die! What a doll. She's such a blogger, haha.

Thick Kevin had the best lines.
"I've got a tiny knob actually... but I rather like it. Means I can wear smaller underpants"
"I find alcohol rather sharpens my mind, yes."
"Sometimes, just sometimes, I think I should be called 'Clever Kevin'."

Does January Jones not just play the part of the 60's woman so well? I don't even think I like her playing modern roles, she so fits that era for some reason.
And Felicity's love interest was adorable as well, and I loved her outfits too.

You guys should definitely check it out, if only for a great soundtrack. It's called "Pirate Radio" in the US and Canada, and "The Boat that Rocked" in the UK. Such a fun movie. The contrast between the pirate radio DJ's and the staunch government folk is just hilarious. Rent it!

Oh, that movie! I've been meaning to see it!!! I smell a great Friday night coming up... :)
I love The Boat That Rocked. I wonder why the name was changed in the US? It definitely has a cracking soundtrack though - 60s music is my original love & real passion. My favourite tunes in the movie are 'I Can See For Miles' by the Who, & the bit where they pretend to shut down & don't & play 'Let's Spend The Night Together' by the Rolling Stones, I just think it's so well fitted.
That movie sounds great...I am definitely going to have to check it out!
Coolness, probably going to see it now in summer.
ohh that looks like my kind of movie. I'll put in my netflix Queue. thanks!
I love this movie!!! And I was just getting a post together about it. haha. Great minds think alike :)
I LOVED THIS MOVIE. i second basically everything you said. i thought maryanne was adorable even though i was really mad at her for sleeping with that other guy, can't remember his name. and then STILL getting the guy. Carl should date me instead :]
& the outfits were so fun. i would love to own all the little, colorful shift dresses etc.
I just watched this a few weeks ago and LOVED it too! It's hilarious and touching - you can tell it's the same group that did Love Actually because it has the same quirky, British sentimentality and uniqueness. I really want to download the soundtrack as I love 60's rock music and you just reminded me - thanks! :)
My cousin has been hounding me to watch this movie for ever. I really should finally get around to it.
Nice choice of pictures.
Ah I love this film, didn't know it had two titles though (:

This movie sounds fascinating, I'll have to give it a watch!!
From Carys of La Ville Inconnue
The ending was a little cheesy, but I adored this movie!

Absolutely in love with this film! Watched only once but I think about it once a day, at least listening to one song of the soundtrack!
I just can't understand why they keep changing the titles, the italian on was "I love Radio Rock", that has almost nothing to do with the story...

I am in love with this movie, too!! It reminds me alot of my all-time favorite movie, Almost Famous :)
I love that film! Marianne's style is so cute :D
great movie.
they changed the name in the US b/c it totally bombed in the UK.
overall the ratings for it were crap, but i never understand why GREAT movies do the poorest in the box office.
this definitely seems like your type of movie! I could totally see you wearing MaryAnns dresses!
that movie is me and my boyfriends favorite! the clothes rock, the music rocks, this movie ROCKS!!!

I want to see this movie so bad, it was showing at the main art theater in Royal Oak, then at the magic bag theater but both times it was showing I was broke!
The outfits are awesome! I have a thing for 60's menswear. Although I would love to wear some of it, I really want to dress up my guy friend in those types of clothes. I think you should create the anchor dress! :D
i loved that anchor dress too. i really think when they roll the credits that they should mention where all the costumes are from and where we can get our hands on them!
I love love love this film. The soundtrack, the styling, Bill Nighy... everything is done to perfection. And I love that Rhys Darby is in it, he is one of my favourite New Zealanders :)

I loved that movie too!
It seems a great movie. I had an attempt to watch it once, but fell asleep through it
this has a long way before it comes up on my netflix but I love the fashion!!
i really want to see that movie :)
Definitely a movie worth seeing! I'm a bit of a dialogue monger, and I don't think there was a single line in this movie that I didn't like or seemed un-natural. Great movie, Great actors. Great writer. Great costumes!

I haven't seen it yet, but I wanted to mostly because TomStu is in it and he's incredibly cute. Now I want to see it so I too can live vicariously through it. It's a dream of mine to buy a houseboat and just live on it forever, docking whenever and wherever I want.
The outfits do look adorable. I really don't need the urge to buy even more nautical dresses, however!
ha ha I'm defintely going to get this movie off nexflix, I too have always wanted to live on ship with a bunch of crazy people, One of my favorite T.V shows was Firefly, and one of my favorite movies The Life Aquatic, both about a group of crazy people living on ships
Hey,

I fecking LOVED this film (and it's way better called 'The Boat That Rocked' IMO :P) even though the British critics thought it was crap. I just wanted to be Rhys Ifans, and dance around to 'All Day and All of the Night' like the Count does in the first scene.
'Pub! Club! Pub! Club!'
i absolutely loved it! the best part: a non-issue lesbian who isn't pregnant, dead, or a vampire. AND she gets a girl. we need more media like this.
I adore this film! Totally love it. I want the dress Marianna wears when she first boards the ship, the check one. I blogged about it months ago when I first saw it. And one day I will find someone to make it for me!

I watched that movie recently and fell absolutely in love with it. And the ending was so good!
Just watched it thanks to you. Definitely downloaded and burned it illegally, too ;] Ahhh, the new age of piracy! Woo!
The Boat That Rocked was a great movie! British comedy is often really good though.
So weird that they called the movie a different name in the states. it was also called "the boast that rocked" here in oz. Loved this movie, loved the sound track and would have happily lived forever wearing the stuff out of there wardrobe department!!!
I LOVE this movie. Love it. Love love love.
That anchor dress got me inspired to make vintagey clothes... And the soundtrack is just epic.
I saw that movie when it was first out in Europe. We took a small break from sightseeing in Paris to watch that movie in a theatre off a canal. I saw it again last night and I LOVE that movie. The whole thing makes me want to completely revamp my iPod.
Such a great soundtrack to this movie. Thanks for pointing out the awesome style!
Ooh I love this movie! Glad you brought it up, I think I'll watch it tonight! xx
I've actually been trying to get my boyfriend to watch this movie with me all week, but we just haven't found the time.
However tonight might be the night so now you've made me even more excited for it!
I loved that movie! It was hilarious and the outfits were great! Makes me wish I was there!
