Be Brave

When Jess from Jess LC asked the Delightful Dozen to help do the lookbook for her new collection, I was so excited, especially because of the necklace I chose to model. All of them have an inspirational phrase on on side and then it's in braille on the other. There are five phrases, and naturally I chose "Be Brave." As the Brave trip gets nearer and nearer I have an almost bipolar anticipation. Sometimes I'm just so thrilled to go, and then the more practical side of me thinks of all the things that can go wrong and I get scared. There's always going to be that part in the back of my mind that's going to run though worst case scenarios. I mean, I'm going to be on the road, by myself with no backup. It's all me. I have to have my own back. I'm excited though. I feel like it's going to really galvanize me, and I need that right now. I saw this quote on Tara's blog, The Organic Sister (a fellow traveler– I'm sure you know I'm in love with the flying W in her header image. She's got a Brave too!), and it really embodies how I feel about life right now: "Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing"– Helen Keller

I'm pretty sure florals are taking over my life. For someone who has never worn florals before in her life, I'm livin' it up. I pretty much shunned girly clothes all through my youth and adolescence. I've had a pretty good girly stint lately. I'm kind of anticipating a shift back to more "masculine" dress. Not necessarily menswear, but definitely more plaids, dark colors and tougher fabrics.

I love florals! They instantly make me feel girly! I love your outfit! The skirt and the hat are too cute! And who's that little furry friend of yours? :)

I love that you are going on your Brave Adventure! I am so jealous. I just got back from a 3 month around the world travelling back packing trip by myself (Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and California) . The best thing I have ever done! You are going to have the time of your life!

Plus, I really want a boater hat and yours is so cute... Good luck! xxx

How perfectly fitting, that Brave would have two meanings for you. On Tieka's blog when she asked which one we'd choose, I said that choose "Be Brave" also. Why? Because (get ready for some cheese) it's ok to be afraid, but having courage helps you get through that.

I also really love the floral + boater, very cute. :)

this is the PERFECT intention for you!!! love it.

i felt very similarly about my trip to india a few months ago - i was flying there alone, meeting a group. only thing was i got delayed in turkey, and had to arrive ALONE in delhi in the middle of the night with no ride or anyone to meet me. having never been there and not having my bearings (and reading lots of warnings to tourists about the dangers of getting in random cabs at night in delhi) i was TERRIFIED. in the end, it was a scary start to an ultimately amazing trip.

i'm sure the same will be for you! just gotta dive in - fears and all! it will be a life changing experience for the better!!! :D

I'm sure the anticipation of your adventure is overwelming on so many different emotional levels! I think it's good that you have a cautious side, though. In the event that you have a hiccup in your plans, this mindset will only allow you to handle it rationally and calmly. You seem ready to me! And you look cute, too. :)

I really like these prints on you, but I am the same, I crave plaid. It is really hard to break away from. I am excited to see your trip as well. I was originally attracted to your blog because you were from Alaska, the very place I want to be (and I have never been). I really like your personal style, and how honest you are in your posts. Now I am really excited to see your trip because I always think that it is wonderful when someone lives out their dream. I am really looking forward to your posts :D

what a great quote. i almost want to reblog it but will resist :) sometimes the misadventures you have while traveling make the best stories (i have certainly had my fair share... so much that i started referring to my travels as travails...)

also, ditto about the florals. i love them on other people, but i always feel slightly off when i'm wearing them, which is strange. i am already looking forward to fall! maybe it's the northern blood :)

Great outfit! I have the bug to just leave the UK right now and go explore somewhere. Me and the hubs want to do something like you actually. come over to the states rent/buy a camper and just travel for a year seeing every state and all the sites, and visit family and friends while out there, but reality then comes in and kicks my ass back to the real world, bills, rent, job etc. I'm too young to tie myself here although Im tied to the hubs, I just figure we can do it together but he is more sensible than me! I am just dreaming of our china honeymoon in november and its the only thing keeping me sane!

I was almost the same when it came to florals and the girly stuff, however in my "younger years" my mom gave m an overload which resulted in total rebellion against it. I still can't stand pink, but florals and some pastels i can do, in moderation. You however, look great! Cute hat too!

I really like your thrifted top. The sort of basic I love to find at the op shops cos I know I'll wear it heaps.

I love the be brave necklace. That's so amazing you got to be part of that!

I'm a big fan of florals and I also used to shun girly pinks etc. So I guess everyone's style evolves
