Hiding in the Light

I finally got my family's printer/scanner hooked up to my computer (I know, I've been living here for like six months and finally got my act together). I've been working on scanning some pictures of tinier versions of me. It's so fun to see myself as a tiny person. It makes me think about someday having babies. So many lovely bloggers are pregnant right now and it's crazy to think that I'm old enough to actually have a baby. Not that I could/would want to have a baby at present, but I mean, I'm 23, which is young, but not unheard of. At least two of my high school classmates already have two kids!

I've actually recently become really excited about being single. I'm typically a pretty content person, but the past year has been rough being single. Not that I want to be dating, necessarily, but it was rough coming off a serious relationship. It sounds silly, but this blog has gotten me through so much, and now I can't even imagine being in a relationship! I literally have no time for it! And right now in my life, I am so perfectly okay with that. I work 10 hours a day and then my evenings are spent taking photos and blogging and reading blogs and I don't think I'd have it any other way. I never thought I'd hear myself say it, but I am way too busy for a boyfriend! Haha!

Honestly, though, in the past two years when times were at their worst, I always had blogging to hold on to. It was the one thing I could focus on and work towards. If I had a rough day, I always knew I could come home and slip into my chair, open my laptop and enter an inspiring and positive environment. I really want to thank all of my readers for always being so kind and encouraging. I read every comment everyday and I try to respond to every email in a timely fashion (though sometimes I lose track of some and it takes a while to reply, sorry!). You guys make my day on a daily basis! If you had told me back in 2008 what this blog would become, I'm not sure if I'd believe you. It's been the most amazing journey, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Hopefully it will take me around the nation, seeing this beautiful country and meeting even more of you lovely people!

I really like these pictures. The light is so, so stunning. Glad that you've had blogging to help you when things aren't the best. I've only been doing it regularly for a little over a month and I can totally see how you can feel that way. Keep up the amazing photo taking and fashion inspiration. You're pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

i love your blog & i love that you are planning such a great adventure! not many young women would want to blaze their own trail, and i love that you do. your posts are a breath of fresh air, and i look forward to them (not least because you don't spend a fortune and you always look adorably put together). thanks for sharing, and if you plan on a swing through memphis when the brave adventure occurs please be sure to let me know because i would love to meet you!

Wow! You look especially gorgeous in this post. I especially love the second picture and last blurry one.
I'm right where you are, ... I recently got out of a serious relationship and now feel way too content with my busy life to imagine how I would have time for a boyfriend should one come along! During the breakup, I never imagined myself feeling this way. It's good to know others are there too and I'm excited to see how everything goes for you. AAAaand I'm 24 and it feels like all my friends (or at least a lot of them) are having babies too.

I really, really love your straight hair. I totally get that it seems foreign to you, but it's sooo sooo pretty!

aw. hehe. I got married at 20 so I have two kids now that I am 26. I got pregnant at 22. Believe me it was very very weird to have a child when everyone thinks you are still in high school and no one else has kids at all. No one wants to hang out with people who are married and have kids when they are still single and want to have fun. it was and sometimes still is the loneliest thing in the world.

. . . ugh depressing comment sorry.

i just started my blog not too long ago, and I feel similarly that when i've had a bad week or day or when its particularly hard not really knowing anyone in my city and having my boyfriend off in Iraq where I can rarely talk to him that the blogging community is a support system that I can't believe I went so long without.

I find so much of what you've gone through on a personal level inspiring... i went through something similar not so long ago. it's always nice to find someone my own age that has been through such a tough situation and come out so strong.

and additionally I have to add that these pictures are so beautiful. The scenes and of course the outfit. It's always a pleasure to look at your photos, they're little works of art many times.

it's so important to be content with where you're at - it's awesome that you're in touch with those times of trial and also aware of when you feel GREAT! your blog is a constant inspiration to me and i really value your openness and honesty; after all, how else can we learn from each other but through sharing our experiences?

can't wait to see where this next stage of life takes you! it's been an honour to hear your experiences so far!

Regarding former classmates having kids: I turned 30 sans kids and some of my high school buddies have kids in elementary school! (I'm still working on the getting married part)When my mom was my age she had an 11 year old and a 9 year old. Getting older: it never quits being weird...

That last photo is incredible.

Sometimes not having a boyfriend is the best thing! I love mine, but I would never be able to pick up and drive across the country in a Winnebago... in a relationship, everything is a compromise.

Embrace your freedom!

Those are lovely photos and such a great outfit. I love the light colors.

I know what you mean about blogging becoming a safe haven; for me it's always a place where I can be who I want and strive to be, among people who are supportive and sweet. It's nice to escape real life this way

I love this post, as always, I seem to love everything you write! And of course, these pictures! So glad it's finally warming up for you! I feel the same about blogging - I mean, I'm married so I have Brett, of course. But I have NO girlfriends within 2 hours of me.. so it's so so nice to be able to have tons of friends in the blogging community, including you! <3

I am glad blogging has helped you through the hard times. It has had a similar significance and effect on me during the rough times when I was moving out of my room (actually because of my old blog!), but after the starting the new one and hearing this massive outpouring of support from everyone even after all of my mistakes, I knew that this was an atmosphere of love, kindness, and acceptance I am so lucky to have.

These photos are gorgeous, the lighting is perfect! Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see your photos! I've been wanting to post photos of myself as a kid for awhile now. After seeing lots of other bloggers' photos, its made me terribly nostalgic.

I'm glad blogging has been a great outlet for you. It's been like that for me too, I never thought something like this would be as helpful as it has.

I really relate to this post. My husband and I split up in November after three years together and it's been rough moving back in with my Mom and brothers. Sometimes I didn't think I could handle the change. My friends were a huge help of course but blogging was a great escape from the entire subject. And now...just like you, I can't imagine having to make time for dating! I do what I want, when I want, and am finally realizing how much better things are this way. So I'm happy for you. to have reached the same conclusion. :)

I relate so much to this. It took me months to hook-up my printer/scanner as well...and now I hardly use it. ;)
Also for me it's funny b/c if someone asks me if I'm happy being single the answer is yes. But I don't think of myself as a single person...I just am a person. I don't even think about relationships most days--I just try to, you know, live...
And you look lovely.

Totally needed this post. I've been going through the longest, most ridiculously drawn out breakup and I'm just starting out with my Etsy shop and trying to get my own life together.

Anyway, just wanted to thank you for making me feel a little less alone, and hopeful that in the future, I can say I don't have time for a boy either!

P.S. Go back to the curls! :)
