Does anybody really know what time it is

I'm totally jealous of how springy it looks in so many of you guys' photos! When I go home it's gonna be full blown winter!! For a least a month more! I'm gearing up for returning to this. Gotta squeeze all the sun out of this place and save it up for the rest of winter!
I'm pretty sure this vacation to Hawaii is the most summer I'll get for the rest of the year, it only hits 80 degrees on very rare occasions in Alaska, and 70 occasionally. It's kind of nice, though, I suppose. It gives me a lot more latitude in my outfits. I can wear tights and layers all through summer if I want, whereas other people will be sweltering in the heat. Gotta look at the bright side of things right? And really, summers in Alaska are gorgeous so I can't complain.

shirt & belt/vintage :: skirt/nordstrom

I'll be home all summer this year, I think (unless, by miracle, I get going on the Brave before then– unlikely. I think I'm shooting for next fall so I can get all my ducks in a row. Seems far away now, but I'm sure it will come up faster than I anticipate!). It's been a while since I've been home all summer. It's strange to think that I actuallylive in Anchorage again. For so long I've been thinking of it as a temporary thing, but now I've got a steady job and I'm not planning on moving for school. The only thing on my plan for the future right now is the Brave, which is a solid plan, though the details are still as fuzzy as can be.

For months now I've been talking about my living situation in such temporary terminology, perhaps in the subconscious hopes that I would move out on my own again like a real adult, haha. Truth be told, I cannot wait till I get to live on my own again, building my life in my own apartment, in my own city. Not that I dislike living with my family, I really do like it, and financially it's ridiculously helpful, especially when it comes to saving up/paying off school. Sometimes it makes me feel juvenile, though. Not helpful: the droves of people who think I'm 15. I suppose looking youthful will be a blessing later on, but for now I can't help but be slightly annoyed (though amused) every time someone doesn't believe me when I say I've graduated college. I should just start pretending I'm a child genius and say I graduated college at 15. I could go back to high school and be super awesome at it, a la Never Been Kissed. Some times I wish I could do high school again and see it from a different perspective. Not caring about what stupid boys think of me, or pining for boys who don't care about me, or giving teachers who are full of crap a piece of my mind.

P.S. I pinned my hair up in these shots because I'm thinking of cutting it shorter. I know, I'm crazy. I actually don't really want to (I already wish it was still super long like before), It just struck my fancy to see what it'd look like. Luckily I my scissors are thousands of miles away because I'm prone to doing spontaneous things with my hair.

I can't believe that in these pictures, your hair is pinned back. It's so luxurious!

I've sometimes wondered what it would be like if I went back to high school, but I'm in too deep with college that high school seems, in a word, juvenile to me.

Cute skirt.

I'm totally jealous of how MUCH IN HAWAII YOU ARE!!!! ;P And you totally don't look 15 on your blog! I hate it when people say stuff like that, I get it all the time: "No way you're 26!!!"
What I really wanted to comment on is that living in Alaska, you have a different view of what cold is: i.e. you've been looking cute and carefree all winter, while a lot of fashion bloggers have an unhappy style-conundrum thing going on. And, you're able to think that 70 is warm (I live in Arizona and I'm shiverrrrrrring under a sweater and pants as we speak in this so called 70-degree weather.) Anyway both my parents were in the Air Force and I was born at Elmendorf (but grew up here in AZ) and ever since discovering your awesome blog I've been really intrigued to see a cool, stylish person in this somewhat mythical Alaskan setting! I hope that while you're living in Anchorage you share with us more of the neat things around you and I'm looking forward to seeing your stylings in that beautiful Alaskan summer backdrop!!! Urgh I hate leaving long comments at the beginning of what will be a 100+ comment post but whatever ;P
Cheers,
Smog

I can completely relate to looking young for your age. I am turning 26 next week, graduated 2 years ago, and too live at home, trying trying trying to get something together and not feel like such a failure! When I was young I totally envisioned an entirely different life by 22, and now... what happened??

anyway, I love the skirt and your gorgeous surroundings right now! It's like mini vacation (it's raining right now). The short/pinned hair looks good; I can't wait until mine finally gets even that long!

I feel your pain waiting for the spring. We only have about two months of nice weather and inbetween is either bitter cold or so humid that your clothes are soaked within minutes.

I love the fresh casual feel of a dress shirt matched with a bohemian skirt. I may have to try that one!

i had that moment recently too... and i was talked off the short hair ledge again. I think I'm going to have blunt bangs cut when I go back in for my next hair appointment. I haven't had bangs since freshman year of high school... so it should be interesting to get used to.

And i know what you mean about people thinking you look so young. I get that all the time too. i got offered a kids menu at a restaurant once.... I'm 24.

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I am 27 years old and I STILL carded to see rated R movies. On Friday and Saturday evening teenagers under 17aren't allowed in the mall. So guess who gets harrassed by the rent-a-cops?! ME. Aw well... we'll appreciate it later in life I guess.

Have a great weekend!

Did you cut your hair? Truly..your hair is my favorite. You look like you're glowing and having so much fun in Hawaii! You look great :)

I think it'll look great short, excited for the cut!

love your belting here

ugg people always think I'm super young, at airports they always ask where my parents are haha, it is annoying but I'm sure we will appreciate it in the future

Not that I ever want to relive High School, but from time to time I wish I could have been who I am now when I was going through those experiences. I very much dislike that I cared so much about fitting in with people I clearly had nothing in common with!

Also, I too have graduated college and moved back in with my folks after living on my own for several years. It's definitely a luxury to not have to worry about money but it certainly doesn't help one grow and mature. We're just late bloomers! At least, that's what I like to tell myself.

I love the skirt so much! The colors, the pattern - it's perfect!

Living at home after 18 is kind of an odd thing, in some ways, it can be really great to be around your family all the time, and in other ways it can be really awful - but the ability to save money makes it worth it.

I know exactly what you mean about looking young, I'm 23 and I had a bouncer ask me to spell my name, he thought my ID was a fake!
Also, is your blog post title in reference to a Chicago song? I grew up listening to them thanks to my parents.
Hope you're enjoying Hawaii :)

i think we've all been there in our twenties, where we've moved back home, deciding over future, paying off debt, dealing with day-to-day bull shit and it's so nice to see someone out there to relate to. as annoying as it is to move back home, at least you can get back on your feet<3.

the outfit btw, is adore. I love the thick braided belt. it's fantastic. and i think going shorter would be amazing. (HAIR)

I love that skirt. The pattern is just gorgeous.

Speaking of spontaneous hair decisions...do you have any tips or tricks for bang-trimming? I've always wanted to try to trim mine myself...but I'm afraid I'd butcher my hair...
