And all that Jazz...

So on Saturday I got to go to the production of Chicago which came through town this weekend.  It was absolutely incredible.  I haven't been to a live show in a couple years, and I haven't seen a Broadway production in I can't even remember when.  It was actually really startling to see these real people just feet away, singing and dancing and performing live.  Moral of the story: I watch way too much TV and not enough live theater.  I did a few plays in high school and jr. high, and I danced in college, so I really do like seeing live performances.  I wasn't a theater kid, by any stretch of the imagination, though (confession:) I saw Cats live when I was in 5th grade and for about 4 years after that, me and my siblings and friends memorized the production and forced our parents to watch us perform it dozens of times.  I don't care if you hate Cats, I still love it and I could sing you any of the songs off the top of my head whenever and wherever  you'd like.  NERD ALERT.

dress/f21 :: top/guess :: tights/lulu e. bebe :: shoes & necklace/vintage

A byproduct of seeing Chicago:  I now want to dress in fishnet bodysuits and wear red lipstick all the time.  And dance around like a sultry vaudeville dancer.  Okay, so I may choose to incorporate red lipstick and fishnets in a less lewd interpretation, but still.

Alright kids, have a good Monday.  And remember: Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle...

Ok, I'm kind of a theatre kid. Now that I'm in college I don't really have time to be in shows anymore...but in my ideal world, I'd be on Broadway! Unfortunately I've never seen a Broadway show - or even a touring company performing one, so I was super jealous when I saw your tweets about seeing Chicago. It's one of my favorite musicals!

You look great here. I love your tights and shoes!

Love that cute outfit! I really want a cute denim dress like that!

Awesome look, as always. With your hair and smile nothing could ever look bad, but the red ties this together into perfection!

Cute outfit!
I'm a theater kid AND a bit of a nerd, so don't be ashamed. Cats rules! I am going to adopt two cats one day and name them Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. It's gonna happen.

What an adorable outfit to see Chicago in! I love the denim and the lacey tights. My mom and I saw it in London a few years ago, and I sort of loathe musical theatre, but I was really impressed by Chicago. I thought it was so sassy and sort of like the American Jazz-era version of Amazonian women who are totally unapologetic about eliminating men and ruling the world with killer legs.

Elizabeth, you look so pretty! I love this look on you.. and I Love your hair so much. :) I kinda want to widen my bangs now. :)

So lucky you got to see Chicago... the only broadway production I've seen was Lion King when they came to Hawaii (Oahu).. and that was amazing!!

I hope you're having a beautiful Monday!! I bet you're so excited to come to Hawaii!! The weather is super nice today.

xx Love & Aloha

I'm not a theater nerd at all but I could probably break out into a little "Magical Mister Mistoffelees" if prodded so don't feel too bad about yourself. I love your jumper it's so cute. And I definitely advocate taking style cues from Chicago - especially doing femme fatale Cell Block Tango style.

Your outfit is darling! The red lipstick certainly suits you :)

I love theatre so much. I've never seen Chicago, but I'd love to, someday! When I was 5, I fell in love with Phantom of the Opera and I used to stand on a kitchen chair and try to sing like Christine. My poor parents' eardrums!

You're always so adorable! Love Chicago and would love to see it live someday. I used to sing Roxy Hart for auditions (theatre kid). By the way, you're hair is like the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

And don't worry, 'cause nerdy = cultured!

Your CATS story isn't that bad. I think all children annoy their parents to death with songs. In high school, when I was probably 17, I went to see The Lion King. By the end of the first song, I was CRYING. I mean bawling my eyes out crying because it was so breathtaking!

I had to put together an audition one year and I made my theater director blush by singing Roxie. She had always cast me as either girlie girls or tomboys (a maidservant to Peter Pan). It was a little hard to writhe on stage singing the lyrics, "They're gonna recognize my eyes, my hair my teeth, my boobs, my nose..."

I loved this post -- I am a huge musical theater fan and I love Chicago and Cats. I learned how to play some of the Cats songs on the piano when I was young and annoyed my family to no end.

I really like this outfit -- it's chic, pulled-together and somewhat patriotic looking. Love, love it.

Lil' red pumps, lil' red pumps. There is nothing like a good old fashioned breath-taking live performance.

Also- I have tights like that and my French teacher always tells me they are "tres Francais"!

Beautiful tights!

haha, that made me remember how while my dad really enjoys musicals and he and my mom go all the time, if you ask him how the musical was all he ever says is "Well it was better than Cats." He HATED cats. I personally have never seen it, but I laugh every single time someone brings it up.

Nothing beats the excitement of live performance. And, as you note, they are inspiring in many ways.

I go into NYC for plays and musicals regularly for precisely this reason. Next up: Valerie Harper as Tallulah Bankhead in "Looped" on Sunday!

Awww it's not nerdy! I was in shows all throughout high school and I did choir for 9 years. Playing Laurie in Oklahoma was the BEST ever. So I guess I'm a nerd too =P Chicago is a fun one. I haven't been to a show in so long, I'll have to drag the hubby along to see one with me.

Love the red lips on you =)

I saw a big production of Chicago a couple of years ago and you're right, it's so much fun. I'm kind of a nerd about musical theater in general but I'm trying to attend more dramas aka "serious" theater. I just saw a small production of Sam Shepard's Buried Child and it gave me chills. Fun!

I absolutely love Chicago. It's one of my favorites, and if I could act in any musical at some point in my life, Chicago would be it. Luckily, I've got time since the lead roles are older women. Haha.

Also love this outfit. A wonderful everday use for fishnets and red lipstick.

Man, I seriously thought this dress was vintage when I first saw it. Way to go, F21!
And I totally know what you mean about getting into musicals. It's so hard not to! Try feeling that way after a Cirque du Solieil show... you're gonna wanna get buff and do acrobatics with your best friend. Trust me on that one. :P
