The Good Times Are Killin' Me

So guess what happened today. I got that job that I didn't get last week! I guess the other person they hired didn't work out! I go in tomorrow at 8 am for my first day. Gone are my lazy days of staying up till 2:30 and getting up at 11. Well, I don't know if staying up till 2:30 will go away, I'll just get less sleep. So here goes! It'll be a lot of learning the ropes, but hopefully I can make it work (as Tim Gunn would say). I feel like all of a sudden my life is crazy busy! Full time classes, full time work, going to NYFW, everything is happening all at once! I'm not complaining though, I'm so glad to finally have my life coming together.

coat/b.b. dakota :: shirt/vintage :: skirt/thrifted :: boots/target

I went to Forever 21 tonight to get some new clothes for my new job and possibly NYC and I ended up getting some really cute dresses! Hopefully you will see them soon. They're all very Betty Draper. Love it! Thank goodness for Christmas gift cards.

I have to pick an outfit for my first day at work! Everyone seems to wear just t-shirts and jeans, so I think I'll be an odd duck with my crazy style every day. They'll probably be like, "You know, you don't have to dress up," and I'll say, "But this is how I dress normally..." Haha! I'm brimming with excitement and anxiety about my new job. I hope I do well. I need to brush up on my Illustrator skills! I'm pretty fluent in Photoshop, but Illustrator is a little foreign to me. I'll be designing for screenprinting and embroidering on t-shirts and jackets and stuff, which is a little different than just designing logos and print media.

I should be in bed, but alas! I woke up at 11 so I'll be awake much too late to get a full night's sleep!

Congratulations, I think you'll make Tim Gunn proud and make it work. :D

And designing for apparel sounds pretty interesting; I had to design a t-shirt for a class several semesters ago, and then I was so new at Illustrator. Hopefully you'll share some design ideas with us!

Oh, that just happened to me recently. I was so distraught about not hearing back about a job interview that I convinced myself I didn't get it. That very hour I had a surreal little e-mail informing me otherwise. They get you down then bring you up...I hope your happiness continues!

On a different note:
At a previous job, I had people telling me: "You don't have to listen to the oldies station."
To which I would have to explain: No, you don't understand, I CHOSE this station, it's what I WANT to listen to.

Congrats!! :)

I know the feeling of dressing up for work, everyone here wears a uniform of a polo shirt and pants. And they are all guys around my dad's age. The only other female wears tshirts everyday. So I am the odd duck. :)

That's awesome! I swear all the good things come on all at once. I quit my awful job of 6 1/2 years last summer and was really worried about how I was going to replace the income. I pretty much only had 1-2 weeks of down time and then got so much work I barely had enough time to do it. 'Tis life ... but it's great!

That skirt is so cool and I LOVE how you paired it with the jersey. Have fun tomorrow!

That is so amazing about that job!! It's like your one bummer day turned around because now you have that job and you're going to NYFW! Amazing! I'm so jealous of your job too. I can't wait to get a job that pertains to my degree. Love your outfit of course. Can't believe I see you in 4 days!

I have always hated when people say "Oh, why are you so dressed up?" That is how I always dress! I especially don't like it when I think I am wearing the simplest thing. It can get quite annoying.

Love all the colors on your outfit though!

Congratulations on getting the job. I have often gotten the "you know you don't have to dress up" response at work in the past. I just ignore it. I find that I have more confidence if I feel pretty.

Congrats on your new job! Fingers crossed your employers will have some of their own fancy shortcuts built in to illustrator to cut down on the learning curve (this is what my old employer did). and don't worry about being more dressed up - it's fun to be the dressy gal. (I get more dressed up for my grungy day job than I ever did working in corporate america - it's so much more expressive). Congrats again!

You are so cute! I've just started reading, so I'm reading backwards and this post got me really excited to read about the job! Heh.

I know what you mean re: dressing fancier than the rest of your co-workers. I work at a company that develops a web app and everyone is SUPER casual. I wear dresses or skirts everyday. People are used to it now, though : )
