Never Been Kissed

Well, 2009 has six hours left (for me. for the rest of you it's surely less and perhaps some have already rung in 2010). I have yet to have a New Years Kiss in my entire existence on this little planet. Sigh. Someday.
I noticed I have been kind of behind on the whole compilation "best of" lists. Don't worry, I have some "Best of 2009" posts coming up. Only one or two though, I won't beat you guys over the head with New Years stuff. I don't really do resolutions. I don't think I've ever had one, actually. Maybe I should start smoking so then next year I can resolve to quit smoking. Haha. Who has a resolution to start smoking?? I'm ridiculous. Actually, I really do need to exercise more. I used to take dance classes and ride horses and walk/ride my bike to school. Now I do basically nothing physically taxing. I wish I could dance more, I love dancing. I should join a dance ... team/squad/group thing... or something. Or a hockey team. Mmmm.
I actually started a 23 before 24 list. I haven't filled it up completely yet, but as soon as I do I'll share with you guys my 23 things to do before I turn 24. Perhaps that will be a suitable substitute for a New Years Resolution.

I don't know what will happen in this next year. It's kind of frightening, actually. Every single year I think, "If, one year ago, you had told me that I would be here doing this I wouldn't have believed you." It's like, how can life be so crazy and unpredictable!? I mean, I guess it's better than life being boring, but sometimes it's exhausting! I am hoping for happy, exciting, adventurous times in 2010.

Perhaps later tonight I will post my top five favorite bloggers of 2009. Get ready!

The Heisman goes to: 2009

Well, people. Say goodbye to 2009. To express to you my feelings about 2009, I'm going to tell you a story.
In Jr. High I had an awesome science teacher. He was hilarious, as well as a brilliant teacher. He had an excellent rapport with the students. He used to do this thing where he'd give students "The Heisman Award." If you got "The Heisman" it meant that you were rejected by someone, whether it be turned down for a date, or a rejected request to attend a dance with someone, etc. If you've ever seen the actual Heisman trophy, you'll see that it looks like so:

As you can see, the guy in the trophy looks like he's pushing someone else away, rejecting them. So. Here's how I feel about 2009. I'm giving 2009 the Heisman. Goodbye 2009. Good riddance. Here's to 2010– please be better than 2009.

I got this lovely necklace from Dolly and Boy Jewelry! It's a feather and a peace sign on a wonderful beaded chain. I love the simplicity. I don't have pierced ears, and my wrists and fingers are too small for most jewelry, so necklaces are really the one jewelry piece I can wear most of the time. Thank you so much to Dolly and Boy jewelry for this necklace! She sent one to Kat Von D once and she wore it in this photo. I feel so cool, like Kat! Haha. Be sure to check out the store at Dolly and Boy Jewelry!

Oh, and for all you tweeters out there. I decided to make a twitter for Delightfully Tacky. I don't know why... networking? If I like it, it'll stay; if I don't, it goes. So be my friend/follower/twitterpal!

Fox

So, my little brother got season 1 of The X-Files on DVD for Christmas because he likes Fringe so much. He's too young to have ever watched X-Files when it was on air, and Fringe refers so much to X-Files. Anyway, guess what I've been doing for four days straight. Yes. Watching The X-Files. It's kind of humorous in its early 90's sci-fi way, but damn does that show have a creepiness about it! In ten years I wonder what we'll think of our favorite TV shows today. I'm praying to God that reality TV has gone out of style by then.

My little brother got me this skirt for Christmas. It is one of my favorite colors! I haven't seen many people wearing this RFT skirt, the most popular pieces appear to be the light blue polka dotted dress (which is sadly completely sold out of my size) and the black/nude tulle dress (which my Mom got for me for Christmas). I can see how this skirt would be less popular, it's kind of a weird color, and it's asymmetrical, which could throw people off.

I have received a couple of necklaces from some lovely etsy ladies and I keep forgetting to post them! I wore this one today from Katy of Wildcatters Jewelry. She makes these cute little necklaces and imprints them with a letter or number. I chose mine to be A & K, for Alaska.

Release Me.

I'm totally bummed, you guys! I was all set to have a wonderful relaxing day and then I got called into work. Consequently, none of my plans got to come to fruition, including outfit photos, making some artwork, and doing today's blog post. Needless to say: kind of annoyed. Oh well. I would say I need to wake up earlier to do outfit pictures before work, but guess what! The sun doesn't come up before I have to be in the car to leave for work! And then it's down hours before I come home. Blast!

Today I decided, to hell with tights! I have to say, as much as I love me some tights, my legs are getting a little claustrophobic. I pine for the days where the breeze can run across my legs uninhibited by any legwear whatsoever. Anyway, it was kind of cold, but felt really good to not wear tights today.

Here are some lovelies who are inspiring me tonight...

Presents under the Tree

Alright, before I forget, I'm posting the winner of the giveaway! Thanks to Random.org, the lucky winner is....

Anna! Merry Christmas, Anna!

And merry Christmas to me! My Dad works on Christmas day so we opened presents a day early. I decided to go for a quasi-elf look. A la Zooey Deschanel in Elf! I mean, we were opening presents, so I had to rock the green tights. I am sure you'll be seeing a lot of new items in my wardrobe soon, including some... Rodarte for Target!! I think I may need to go get some more RFT though, I've been loving seeing some of the pieces on a bunch of ladies in the blogosphere.

skirt/F21 :: tights/goodwill :: shirt/thrifted :: boots/gift

The boots I'm wearing were a Christmas present today! My feet match my doggie! Maybe I won't steal my Mom's mukluks anymore...
As if you all haven't had enough Christmas overload already, here are some Christmassy pictures!

Here is Little Bit, with her Christmas present: Booties! At first when we put them on her she walked around like she had on Kitten Mittens. It was hilarious. Her feet are so tiny, though, that when she ran around a lot they had a tendency to fall off. Maybe she'll like them when she realizes that they keep her feet from getting frozen.

I think we're gonna go see Sherlock Holmes tomorrow. I kinda liked the ads (even though, like all movies today, the movie looks like at least 80% action and special effects and 20% plot), so I hope it's a good movie. I haven't seen any reviews, but I don't pay that much attention to those anyway.

I've seen a moon before

Tomorrow is my last day of work before the holiday! Woo! For some reason I really liked work today. I felt really useful and productive. It's hard to like work when I feel superfluous. We are coming up with our window displays for New Year's and I think they're going to be amazing!

I'm getting really excited about taking pictures. I'm certainly not an expert, especially not in the technical realms, but there's something so magical about film and getting your prints back from the shop. Someday maybe I'll have a darkroom of my own, but not until I have a house. I really want a supersampler. I have my Bell & Howell, which is a not-so-super sampler (in that it gets two shots per print), but it would be fun to have 4 sequential shots on a print.

Today I will just share with you some lovely things.

1. CMYK nails. A printmakers dream. Doing this, asap.

2. Wall art. Want to do this. Plywood and spraypaint, my favorite! I can't wait to have my own house/apartment again to do stuff like this.

3. I don't care what anyone says. My dream in life is to live in a trailer.

4. I miss painting RVs ... I really want to start drawing more. I haven't really drawn or made any art since graduation (and I don't have a studio or my own space anymore).

5. I want my room to be a cocoon of coziness.

(ffffound)

(I forgot where I found these...)

My Grandparents are in town now! I want to take pictures of them with my cameras. I forgot that I need to get Christmas presents for them! Maybe I'll just make them something...
My Grandma just said to my Grampa, "Look at the moon!" and he just sat there and said, "I've seen a moon before." Hahah!

Developments

Well, today was... interesting. Last night I went out with my friend who was in town for a few days and we went downtown looking for a bar to chill at (on a sunday night, of all nights). We ended up at this little bar which was really cozy. I had at least one too many (the drink I was having was called a Grateful Dead, ironically!), so I had to leave my car downtown and get a ride home. But this morning was the worst ever. Not even due to hangover, I get really sick sometimes at the beginning of you-know-what time of the month and this morning just happened to be my lucky day! So night of drinking + my insides trying to murder me= writhing in agony on my bathroom floor for four hours and vomiting more times than I think I ever have. Aren't you guys glad I shared that all with you? TMI. Sorry. I am all better now, though.

I will give you some lovely images now to cleanse your mind from imagining my lovely morning. I got my Holga prints back! And I also got my Holga 35 mm film back also... but it doesn't look like it turned out very well. Once I figure out how to print it I'll find out for sure.

I didn't care much for most of my color shots (they came out as 4x6's not 6x6 which I prefer), but I loved these dreamy ones from the state fair. The black and white roll is from a few years ago and I'm not even sure where some of the photos were taken.

My grandma and grampa just got Skype! It's so funny to be video chatting online with 88 year old people. I'm sure when they were my age they would never have thought that such technology would ever exist! It makes me wonder what we will come up with by the time I'm 88. Cell phones and computers have advanced so exponentially just from when they came out a couple decades ago.

Go check out Ruche's blog to win some fun things between now and Christmas!

Secret Santa

I can't believe Christmas is next week! It just snuck up on me! I need to wrap all my presents. I think I still need to get more presents too, which means I have to go out and brave the masses of Christmas shoppers. This frightens me. If I had the money I would buy so many presents. I love getting people gifts.

Know what I love about this time of year? Delicious packages from Harry & David. Mmmmm, pears and cheese and yummy things! Oh, also, peppermint ice cream. I'm not a huge fan of peppermint, but I love peppermint ice cream.

dress/vintage(ebay) :: tights/lulu e. bebe :: shoes/BCBGirls

I went to a work Christmas party last night. It ended up being really fun, despite my reluctance to go. I was out till 3:30 am. I'm too old for that kind of thing. Haha. I don't think my body was made for any sort of partying scene. I can't fathom people who party every night and then get up and go to work or school. I've never been black out drunk, or even sick drunk, but even so, waking up after a night of drinking is so unpleasant, especially if you have to get up and be productive. I've never even had a serious hangover with pounding headache and nausea, but the weird haze that your brain is in the next morning still bugs me. But I digress.

Did you guys notice anything different in these photos? Besides the fact that this is my first inside photo this winter. If you haven't guessed yet, I'll give you a hint:

I cut my hair! I kind of just got annoyed by the mat of hair that was always laying on my back. So I didn't cut off anything in the front, but I took the back all the way up to my neck. I wanted to do a sort of A-Line cut, but much longer than the Victoria Beckham version. I cut off... maybe a foot? I really should have measured. I think I cut more after I took that picture of my sink. My hair hasn't been this short in years. I think I need to cut a little more too. It's hard to cut your own hair in the very back, though.

Have anyone seen the MTV show Styl'd? I just started watching it online. The styling part is interesting, but as always, the drama is dumb. But it's MTV. Drama is unavoidable. I'm totally bummed that all my favorite shows are off the air until January!! And then I'm going back to living a TV-less life! Thank God for the internet and online episodes.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting to mention stuff like this, but I was interviewed by Fashion Jinx and they've now posted the feature! I also was mentioned over at Blue is in Fashion This Year in a little collage of snowy pictures.

Don't forget to enter the giveaway! Less than a week is left to enter!

Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud

So, my life is completely consumed with work right now, soooo, all you get is orange soda and David Bowie. And I mean, really, what could be better? Orange soda completes me.
I have a dream, people. That dream is to meet a boy who looks identical to this, who is incredible in all ways and who falls madly in love with me. Oh Bowie doppelganger, where are you? Find me. Marry me. Give me babies. Hahah. I am delirious from exhaustion, clearly.

Put on your face

Okay, so months ago someone asked me about my makeup. I kept meaning to do a post on it, but I don't really do much for makeup and I do the same thing almost every day, so it never seemed too exciting to post. But avast! I have finally gotten around to giving you all the scoop on my routine.

I do the cat-eye/cleopatra/winged/winehouse (whatever you want to call it) eyeliner pretty much every day. If I don't do that, I'll do a sorta smudgy/smoky thing, and sometimes I'll combine the two for a more intense look. On the bottom rim I line it only at most halfway. I always leave a space at the corner, because I have small eyes so I try to keep them as open as possible. I also do this with my eyeshadow. I use MAC Nylon eyeshadow and I dab it at the insides of my eyes to open them up. Sometimes I'll do that on my brow bones too. I'll often just leave it at that, but I also add MAC Tempting shadow to the crease sometimes. I actually only have like three or four eyeshadows and rarely use my other ones. I wish I had more matte colors because I only have shimmery shades. I like MAC though, and it's expensive, so I don't often splurge to go get a bunch of new shadows.
If I'm feeling fancy I'll use my MAC blacktrack fluidline to do my eyeliner with an angled brush, but usually I just slap it on with a pencil. I use Wet N Wild for no particular reason. Probs because it was cheap.
I use concealer under my eyes and on any little blemishes that pop up without my consent. I use Neutrogena's healthy skin smoothing stick.
I don't use a lot of foundation or that junk because I think it's nasty when it looks like you can scrape an inch of makeup off a girl's face. I use MAC studio fix. My blush is MAC powder blush in Dame.

Very rarely I'll wear false lashes, but they are quite fun and I sometimes wish I was the kind of person with enough patience to put them on each morning.

Well, that's pretty much it! I'm a really low-maintenance person, so I don't like a huge ordeal when it comes to make up.

P.S. If you haven't seen this, you should.
