Ah, the weekend. It's supposed to be all relaxing, right? Alas, I find myself working on most weekends. After posting that drawing last post it really made me miss drawing and making prints. That's the beauty of college. For four years all I was supposed to do was create and learn. Now I'm working all the time and creating has become a luxury.

In addition to wanting to get back to drawing, I have recently found one of our vintage cameras, an old Bell & Howell. It's an amazing little camera which puts two photos on one print. Like so:
This is from an old Bell & Howell camera we used to take photos with when I was in Spokane. It's really too bad that so many people are stuck on digital these days. I mean, the convenience is too much to pass up, but film cameras are just so great. I have almost two rolls of 120 film from my Holga that I need to get developed too, which I'm excited about. Color film, too! All this creative talk is really making me want to move back to Spokane and restart my magazine. As much as I want to go to grad school and get me some learnin' and then go work for a big fancy schmancy magazine like Nylon, I have this entrepreneurial urge in me which makes me want to go it alone. I love smaller cities like Anchorage and Spokane. Big magazines like Elle, Nylon, Vogue and so on, they don't care about us. They pretend like they are interested in people in small cities and fashion in small cities, but they care about designers, retail, and pushing trends. What I loved about my magazine was that it was small and for real people, featuring real people and local artists and musicians. Maybe once I figure out my life I'll get back to my own magazine. For some reason I have such an affinity for Spokane and don't think I'd be able to do the magazine anywhere else. Perhaps, not, though. We shall see...While we are on the subject of art, on a total whim I bought this print off of Etsy tonight.

Here are some of my absolute favorites:

20 musings:
i know what it feels like, i've been in an Art School for 5 years and what was my most precious hobby soon became a full time job. That's a little bit sad
i really like your outfit, especially the boots and the scarf :)

I totally know what you mean. Having a full-time job suddenly leaves you with no time to do the things that really fulfill you. I love that print you bought, though!
i really like your perspective on photographers working in big markets - i feel like its a universal feeling knowing you're young and talented but expendable... :/
anyways, gorgeous film prints!

Wow! Once again your outfit is so adorable!! I am obsessed with wearing my scarfs like this now and I love the colors of yours.
Oh that print is gorgeous! I love prints like this- it is so cool to see vintage cameras. I miss the art of polaroid or film cameras too. Sometimes I don't like how technology is evolving- I feel like a person misses out on the actual art of photography (just my opinion of course though).

What a great print! I collect vintage cameras and personally prefer to shoot on film, as well. I've been thinking about breaking out my Holga, but processing the film is 'spensive!
I love your style!!! Added you on my blog roll! <3
impeccable style!

I really enjoyed this post! You have inspired me to go back to my old school camera and experience the excitemant and anticipation of waiting to see what shots I get... unedited and uncensored!
I think you have a great eye, so you should seriously consider your magazines rebirth...your sentiment about the "big guns" is shared by many in the blogging community and probably one of the main reasons we are all doing it in the first place...sponsor-free fashion and style!
Great outfit too =)
I think you should jump start your magazine! I think it's amazing to see the product of a creative mind.
I have several of those cameras!
Love & Light,

I'd buy your magazine in a heartbeat. ♥
PS: you're the reason I've been tucking in my scarfs lately...!
I understand where you are coming from. I went to school with this huge idea that one day I would be working for some fancy marketing firm in Chicago. I ended up not working for one anyways. I couldnt deal with idea of being so in debt coming out of college only to deliver coffee to my boss and make 30k a year clawing my way to the top. So instead, I ended up working for the eCommerce side of a beauty retail company where all my art, marketing, technical skills and obsessive love for fashion came to merge. Now I love my job. Its a medium sized company but the corporate office is not far from my hometown (which is basically farms) where my husband and I bought a house.
AND I can say this, as I have gone through what you are entering....working in a big fancy firm is nothing like what you think. I deal with people from those magazines and from other fashion/beauty companies and I would never work for any of them. They are so branded that your creative juices don't even have two seconds to emerge to show your talent. You are caught tied to their wants, their brand, and their artistic style (which never matches yours). I have seen a lot of friends get into those types of firms and leave from being so bored. :(
After seeing your photos on the Clothes Horse I just had to have a look! I know you must hear it all the time, but your hair is AMAZING! I love people who have the courage to look a little different and end up completely rocking it!
gorgeous photos as well who takes them for you? xxx
I was reading corsair just the other day.
I love that pirate of a magazine.
you are a lovely lady. Spokane misses you too dear.
baby bar wednesdays are calling your name the $1 PBR and grilled cheeze need your steady hand.
It's getting just cold enough here to huddle near the heaters.

I would def. subscribe to your magazine, :-) Hell, I'd even skip over my standard copy of Nylon if it came to that! Do it, even if it the first issue's only 10 pages!

very stylish!

I absolutely love the belted scarf, it has influenced my entire wardrobe as of late! Gorgeous photos too. Thanks so much for linking my blog! I was so excited when I saw that!
selective potential
I have been seeing the scarf styled like that for a while, it looks adorable so I need to see what it will look like for a plus size girl.
Your style is very inspirational, so keep up your posting, everybody loves it.
