Greetings, 2009!

I've been on a decor fix these past few days, delving through archives of Design*Sponge. Today I came across a lovely DIY from Mr. Peacock for decoupaging your ceiling! He used birds and flowers, but the possibilities are endless! I was thinking I couldn't do it because I rent an apartment, but he was saying that the decoupage will just wash off when you want to take the birds down. Brilliant. Check out his DIY here!

Also, check out these really neat calendars from norawhynot at etsy.

From the description: "The calendar is hand silkscreen printed onto recycled boxboard using hand-mixed inks to produce an original colour palette. Each month is separately printed with some months having as many as four separate passes, one of the colours being unique to that month, making all pages exclusive and individual - NO TWO ARE THE SAME."

Neat stuff for the new year!

I have to say, one of the banes of my existence (okay there really aren't that many...) is that I can't paint my apartment. Adding color to a living space really livens it up and makes it your own. I have tried quite hard to make my living space my own, however, sans paint. I can't tell you guys how excited I am for my first living space which I can make completely my own. Check out how incredibly this color transforms this little space! (design*sponge)

I think so many homeowners these days are scared of color. Houses are full of beige, white, and tan rooms. Color makes life so much more exciting. Live in color!! Pin It

Bob Ross

If you know anything about me, you know I have a healthy relationship with all things ugly and tacky from times before 1980. Give me anything avocado green, harvest yellow, burnt orange, or brown and I am a happy camper. Give me ugly old Bob-Ross-esque landscape paintings and my insides will squiggle with delight. Give me the lamp your grandmother had in her living room and... you get the picture. So imagine my wonderment when I found this:

Behold! A noteboard made from an old ugly painting!! I found this little gem over at Design*Sponge, and was so tickled with delight I can hardly wait to go to Value Village, Classy Rack, Goodwill, etc. etc. to find just the right painting to do this with. Check out her directions here. I thought it would work also as a push-pin board, if you put corkboard beneath the painting, but she does it as a magnetic board.

There are some exciting things happening in my brain of late, hopefully I will have some concrete things to share with you all in the near future!

Rockabilly Christmas

Well, in a fit of genius, I have failed to bring my memory card downloading device, so there will continue to be no outfit posts until the new year. I have finally reunited with my family in western Washington and we had our (mainly my) Christmas last night. I recieved many lovely things, but here is my very favorite bag:

Since I cannot post any outfits yet, here are some things I have found on the interweb:

(Lookbook, Behind the Seams)

(Pinup Girl Clothing)

I have recently been reminded of my passion for the pinup and rockabilly aesthetic. I go through style phases but the 'ugly 70's' and Pinup looks are always at the core of who I am as a person. My absolute adoration for vintage cars is probably at the root of that. I wish I lived in a warm sunny place where I could drive around all day in the hot vinyl interior of my car wearing one of the above outfits or leopard print cigarette pants and curled hair, or a high waisted pencil skirt and white tank. There is something so inherently sexy about the car culture rockabilly that is just natural.

Merry Christmas everyone. Many blessings to you all.

Linger on

Well, I am back home now after eight hours of driving. My family's flight to Seattle got cancelled because of "all the snow" so they probably won't make it to Washington until friday. I decided I did not want to be stuck alone in a big house for a week, so I came home. Let me tell you, it is the most wintery wonderland of all winter wonderlands here. I would take a picture but it is dark and it would lose the impact, probably.
I am cozy in my little apartment now, however, with my 'Christmas Wreath' candle lit (even though my nose is stuffy and I surely will not be able to smell it), Velvet Underground playing, and a Bailey's coffee warm in my hand. I am a very happy person right now, even though I am not with my family. Second best scenario.

I will leave you, for now, with one of my favorite pictures. It is from a Canadian Whiskey ad, but everything in this picture is me.

VA

I am reluctant to go outside. It is cold out there and I am oh so tired of being cold. I wrapped presents today. Getting presents for people is one of my favorite things to do. I just like seeing them so happy to get something they like. It is kind of odd because I'm not one who really is that into getting gifts. I mean, I love getting gifts, but it's not my favorite things. I think my favorite thing is spending time with my loved ones.
Anyway, here are some photos from Virginia Beach, where it is not cold. I am so ready to live somewhere warm.

Sunset Tavern

Finally! I am at my final destination! I have been traipsing around Seattle and Tacoma for the past four days, and have acquired some documentation of my journeys...

I went to this wonderful bar called the Sunset Tavern in Ballard and saw some of my friends play a show. It had the most incredible vibe, great artwork, and they played Neil Diamond in between sets... a winner indeed. It was the perfect place to sip on rum and cokes while sitting on a bar stool soaking in the atmosphere.

Journey

Sorry for the long absence! I have been away from my computer and out of a home and traveling for quite some time. Soon I will be where I'm traveling to and will have solid internet for a while. I have fun things planned for this space in the near future, don't worry lovelies!! Pin It

Despite all the computations

Photos I took a couple years ago in Juneau, AK. They are some of my all time favorites.

One of my good friends came over last night and he brought his amazing german shepherd pup!

I really like this girl, Genevieve's, looks on Lookbook. Carefree and playful.

They're outside smoking cigarettes

This week is my finals week, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post. This weekend was mainly just work work work, so there wasn't too much exciting happening. Excepppptttt...

House show!!
Interestingly, I played at this show. I told one of my friends that I had written a song that day and she was like, "You should play it!" So I said, "Only if everyone chants my name."
Anyway, I was kind of joking about playing, but it ended up that there was some dead space between bands and they needed someone to fill, so I played my brand new song! It was exciting and quite fun.
It was wierd being in that house though. I lived there last year and there are a lot of rough memories in it. It felt like being in a coffin with a dead person somewhat.

Since I have basically been wearing the same thing for three days due to work, I will post pictures of other people wearing cute skirts. These ladies are both from Lookbook.

Come on, Chemicals

Well, the week is finally over. It feels good to finally be able to sit still and not have to be doing anything. I have all the candles in my house lit and very low lighting, it is quite relaxing. Today was my craft fair! It was quite good. I sold a decent amount of jewelry and a couple hair bows. Everyone really liked my stuff, so that was reaffirming.

My outfit matched my table more than I intended it to....

Shirt(shirtdress): Ruche
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Thrifted

Tonight I am going to a Velella Velella and Pt. Juncture, WA show. They are both really good bands. Here is one of Velella's songs:

Much dancing will ensue, assuming I'm not ready to fall asleep by then.

Time warp

Well, I just realized that next week, not in two weeks, is finals week. Soooo, I'm a little bit on overload right now. Also, I found out today that I have a Chemistry test during the first hour of my craft fair on friday. So somehow I'm going to have to get someone to fill in for me during that first hour. I was planning on just skipping class that day, but that is impossible with this test. I just can't believe that in a week the semester is going to be over. Only one more left...

Here is my navy blue skirt! It is hard to ride a bike in. Luckily the semester is over so I won't be riding my bike anywhere anymore. Apparently I am only capable of wearing mustard yellow in recent times. I am okay with that, though. I like that color. Also: new Peacoat! Lovely B-Day present from Ma...
Shirt: Nords Rack
Skirt: Thrifted
Jacket: Nordstrom
Shoes: Thrifted

Well, tonight I have to crank out my senior thesis. I am half excited about, half loathing this project. By tomorrow it will be all said and done with, though, which is somewhat refreshing and a light at the end of a tunnel. Sort of.

Winter's doorstep

Excitement is to follow in the coming days as I explore the fun possibilities with my my three(!) new skirts!! Tomorrow is navy blue, get ready!

Today was yellow and leather (or some semblance of it) and glasses. Also, errands like whoa. Now I should be working on my senior thesis research, but all I can think about is how to get food that isn't pizza to appear at my doorstep. Note the barren landscape which is my refridgerator.

Also, my fridge decided it needed some adornment. It now has my favorite things on it.
Jacket: Wet Seal
Shirt: Ross
Jeans: Wet Seal
Shoes: Thrifted
Hat: Nordstrom

I am currently listening to The Dodos, I really like this song:

Coming down

Well, I'm back in Washington after a wonderful week up north. Highlights? Yes:
Sledding party!! And my finished room:

Not much on the fashion front, as I've been traveling and having too much fun to take pictures of outfits. Luckily other people are being stylish to make up for me. Here are some pictures from my recent haunts of
Lookbook:

I like the last girl's hair. I like mine black but I'm not sure how long I'm going to want it black. Of course, it's dyed black, which means it will be near impossible to get out. Oh well. Maybe I'll just go for it and see what color it ends up. I could always dye it back to black right? Sounds brilliant to me. Also, I am currently convinced of my need for a black pencil skirt.

Is anyone else excited for Christmas shopping? I sure am. I have my lists all filled up with stuff to get for loved ones and I'm so excited to shop for them. I just want to do it today, but I have so much to do to get ready for my craft fair. Things I should be going out and doing now, but alas, I have workers in my apartment fixing things. So it goes.

P.S. I want a dog SO BAD. Dauschund, preferably.
